Here is an amazing group that has already brought 27 semis full of needed supplies to the folks in Western North Carolina. The farmers need more items urgently! The people who were devastated by Helene have lost everything! Their land had been wiped out with the flooding and multiple landslides. Their homes are destroyed, damaged or washed away. Their barns, fences, gates, framing equipment and a lot of their livestock is gone. The jobs are gone. Some of these people have to start over with the clothes on their backs. They need the supplies to start their farms again. Please donate to help them get back on their feet. These are hard working people who need a hand up from this unprecedented storm that left a huge wave of destruction in its wake. Please share this and donate today. Ask where you work to donate. Contact them if you have supplies you can donate. There is a trip planned for the beginning of December but they need the donations now before the trip so they can buy and pack all the supplies. With summer well on it's way, it's not a good idea to leave your pet in the car. Leaving windows down is not enough. When in doubt leave your pet at home. If it is an absolute emergency, no more than 5 minutes in a car for a pet. But, the windows must be rolled down!

As we enter into February, Spring is right around the corner and that means fleas and ticks are ready for you furry friends. Make sure that you are giving your pets some flea and tick medicine! This will save you a lot of work and discomfort on your pets. If you would like recommendations for need help finding where to purchase some feel free to give us a call!

With Christmas right around the corner here are some tips for your furry friends and ornaments! With ornaments on the tree they are huge temptations for your pets to play and eat them. There are two ways that are successful to keep my furry friends and ornaments safe. First way is to decorate your tree only 3 quarters of the way. This way your pets will not be able to get or knock into any ornaments. The second way is if you want your whole tree decorated is to put the glass/fragile ornaments at the top of your tree and decorate the bottom of your tree with your wooden, plastic, and less fragile ornaments. Since there will be Trick or Treating tonight. This is a great time to give out information on Trick or treating with pets. If you decide to take your pet trick or treating with you make sure you get them used to seeing costumes and decorations. When you are walking them look out for houses who have their dogs/pets out too or other people walking their furry friends. If another dog is out ask the owner if the dog is friendly then properly introduce your dog to theirs so we do not have any accidents on this fun night. Also have a strong harness/collar and a leash on your dog incase they get too scared or excited, so you have a strong hold on them. Then when you get home and devour all of the candy make sure you throw away your wrappers in a trash can that you pets can not get into. With leftover candy put it on a high shelf or counter then your furry friends will not be able to eat all of your hard earned candy. Lastly have a safe and fun trick or treating tonight!

Here is a tip we have learned in the past when it comes to anxiety in pets due to fireworks or storms. The first thing we do is give the pets Valerian root. (You can get at Kroger or Vitamin Shoppe) Valerian root is a human/pet safe capsule that calms nerves. If you have a kennel/crate we suggest sticking your pet in there with a blanket or towel over top of the crate. Put the crate in the most quiet part of the house. Or if you don't have a crate we suggest putting them in the bathroom or a comfortable quiet place. Also try to comfort your pet with a soft voice and a nice petting.
