Empire Retriever Club and it’s members believe that a well-trained hunting retriever is an excellent conservation tool that helps preserve wildlife and habitat. Empire Retriever Club was founded in 2002. While Field Trialing was the initial focus, the club quickly e

xpanded to include hosting AKC hunt tests. After a recent reorganization, the club is now hosting field tests under the North American Hunting Retriever Association (NAHRA) banner. NAHRA field tests are realistic, simulated hunting scenarios similar to what hunters will encounter in the field. Empire Retriever Club is an active member of the Dog Federation of Western New York. Most club activities take place at the Tonawanda Wildlife Management area, a 5,600 acre management area located half way between Lockport NY, and Batavia NY along route 77 in Genesee and Niagara counties. A strong working relationship with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation makes this possible. Many Club members have several years of experience in the training and testing of retrievers. Many have titled dogs in AKC Field Trials, AKC Hunt Tests, and NAHRA field tests. Many members are avid waterfowl and upland game hunters who appreciate the value of a well-trained retriever. Others are avid dog lovers who enjoy the satisfaction of training their retrievers. All members are ready to share their experience and training-knowledge.
