Hello, my name is Mason, I am a 2-year-old Yellow Lab/Pit Mix. I was found as a stray in La Grange, Indiana. I was residing at the Ark animal shelter, where I took on the hearts of the whole staff. An amazing group RPSM recruited me to go to Coldwater prison to be officially trained on improving my manners and discipline. RPSM contacted my current foster parents to pick me up from Ark Animal Shelter, to care for me till my big day to start my training. Since being with my current foster family, I have learned how to be a dog again. be with multiple dogs, cats, and other pets. I enjoy being around small children, and playing and running like a dog should be able to. I have been working on house breaking, which is going well but will need continued reinforcement. I am a big goofy teddy bear who loves constantly being with people. I have a Velcro personality. Watch me when I get my zoomies. I am great on a leash with very little pulling. I am crate trained and sleep in a crate overnight without problems. I will make a great addition to any family. On Nov 1st, I enter training for 10 weeks to learn my manners and maybe some cute tricks. Submit your app today. If approved to adopt me, you will receive my weekly reports until I come home with you On Jan 10th.

Meet Little Bird aka Birdy! Grab your tissues because Birdy has a heck of a story. Birdy has experienced the type of neglect that you can't imagine happening to animals, she is only about a year old and lived in a too-small crate and was starved her whole life. Birdy was skin and bones when she came to me and missing quite a bit of hair from skin and ear infections. Because of her neglect she did not grow to be what her normal size should be so her breed is a true mystery (I have a DNA test pending and will update when the results are in). Her front legs are bowed, and she has duck feet and to put it bluntly; she's pretty awkward looking, but other than not being a running partner and having a funny gait, she doesn't seem to have any issues getting around. Birdy, despite her past, loves all people and enjoys being the little spoon at night, and gives the best hugs! Birdy is okay with very submissive dogs but, would not mind being an only pup. Because of her past, she has not learned how to share toys/long-lasting treats. Birdy currently lives with a 90lbs Pittie and they coexist just fine, but I separate them with toys. Birdy is crate trained, quiet in the house, sits politely for mealtimes, rides great in the car, is incredibly silly, and very food-motivated. If you are looking for a dog that hits you right in the heart every time you look at her because you know what she survived and how far she has come, then Birdy is the girl for you! Birdy has not been tested with cats, but we are willing to travel for meet and greets. Birdy currently weighs about 45ish lbs. but still needs to put weight on.

RPSM is in need of a foster home near St. Joe County, MI!

Every 10 weeks, dogs from our partnering shelters enter training with skilled inmates to learn their manners.
Before the dogs enter 10 weeks of training, our dogs spend time in foster homes to decompress from shelter life, allowing fosters to learn more about the dogs before they become available for adoption…their likes, dislikes, and more.
RPSM provides everything you will need: food, treats, crate, collar, leash, heartworm/flea/tick preventative medication, and more if you may need it.

If you are able to bring your foster to Coldwater, MI on the day they enter training, then you may qualify to be a foster.

To learn more and submit your foster application today, please go to:

FROM WINSTON’S LAST TRAINING REPORT:

WINSTON IS GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS, KIDS, AND CATS. WINSTON WILL BE AVAIABLE FOR A MEET AND GREET AFTER 11-8 AS HE NEEDS ANOTHER SURGERY TO REMOVE THE SUTURE FROM HIS ACL SURGERY.

The time with Winston has gone so fast. Winston has improved steadily through these last 10 weeks. His confidence has improved to where we believe he will do well in most any household setting. We had a graduation on Friday, October 25 and Winston performed well. When Winston gets to his forever home and builds a trust with his new forever family, he is going to prove to be a great addition! We will enjoy the last few days with him here. We will still exercise him on a daily basis with walks and reaffirming his command training that he has learned while here. Winston will be missed and we hope that his new family will enjoy him as much as we did.

FROM ARLO’S 1ST TRAINING REPORT:

ARLO ENTERED TRAINING EARLY. HE IS GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS AND KIDS. ARLO NEEDS A HOME WITH NO CATS AND A 6 FT FENCE TO KEEP HIM SAFE.

So I get the honor of having big Arlo this go round. Arlo was and is very curious of this new world that he just got to, so I have taken it slow and allowed him to decompress, and sniff around. He’s very strong and a bit cautious of a lot of things in here, but then again there is a lot of things and noise that I’m very sure that he has had no exposure to! So I’m going to be taking it slow with this big guy, and let him go at his own pace.
He slept okay on his first night, other than him waking up every time that the c/o’s came around and made a little beeping sound against the wall, but he didn’t react by barking, or getting up, or even to investigate, he simply just looked. Which is a good thing that he’s not reactive. He hasn’t really taken any food just yet, very little. Which every dog is different. Some take longer than others, and I’m sure that Arlo is going to be just fine once he fully decompresses. He really is a little sweetheart though, you can see that he has a lot of love that he wants to give. Doggy boot camp starts tomorrow so will see just how he starts off.
Well this is all for now, Arlo and I are just getting to know each other, feeling each other out, and figuring out just how we are going to get to where we need to be? This coming week I’ll start Charging The Mark, which is the word YES. Every time I say YES I give him a treat, he doesn’t even have to do anything, that way when he learns that I say YES that a treat is coming! Then I start charging the words LOOK and his name so please stay tuned in to see just how and where Arlo is going with his training, remember he’s looking for his forever home.

FROM ALANI’S LAST TRAINING REPORT:

ALANI IS GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS, KIDS 8 YEARS AND OLDER, AND NO CATS

Alani had her graduation ceremony held on Friday, October 25, 2024. She did an excellent job with her performance. She executed all of her commands verbally. We have really enjoyed our time with Alani and we hope that you will see just how special she is with everyone. She loves to play with other dogs. Please be patient with Alani, she is very smart, but she can move a little slow at times. She does well when taking a bath, brushing her teeth and cleaning her ears with baby wipes. Her nails were a little long when she arrived here at the facility. We had to clip file them down just a bit. Alani is going to be a special gift to the family. Just allow her some time to warm up to you.
