It's sad to think about the fact that Trey's time was running out at the shelter. Because two people that wanted to make a difference in his life said they would foster, he is alive and playing with his foster sibling today. So many, many dogs never get this chance. Fostering is hard and rewarding all at the same time. Letting them go is sometimes very emotional, but when those pupdates come through from new families, it makes it all worth it. For every foster we get that says they want to make a difference, a dog's life is saved. It's as simple as that! Help us help more dogs by signing up to become a foster!

Meet Sparrow! He is looking for a family of his own.
He came into a shelter in January and he was a volunteer favorite. He loved playing with stuffed animals and would beg to take them back to his kennel. He was also extremely scared in the facility and would pancake on the floor when it was time to go back to the kennel. His eye was badly injured when he arrived to the shelter. He has since had surgery to remove that eye. Now that he is no longer in pain he is doing great.
Sparrow has been able to finally decompress in a home environment. He is extremely attached to his stuffed animals and expresses his love by carrying them around the house, outside, burying them in the yard and tearing some apart!
He is NOT food motivated – more stuffy motivated than anything else. High value treats are helpful. Stuffies are great for re-direction.
He Is crate shy – he does fine once he’s in his crate, however, convincing him to get in the crate takes lots of HIGH VALUE treats and positive encouragement. He tends to whine for a bit when he’s first put in the crate but will settle down quickly. It is highly recommended that his home has a crate for him and use it at night until he’s comfortable and when his family is away. He does like to grab and destroy items that he sees as toys (blankets, towels, dog clothes, scarfs, etc.)
Sparrow is a strong, high-energy dog. He would be great on an agility course or as a running partner. He is all muscle. This also means that he’s a very strong leash puller and a skilled jumper. He loves to run and play. He fetches and follows some basic commands. He knows “sit” (for treats) and has started to respond to “leave it” and “stay” . He’s not a fan of “off” and tends to put his paws up on counters or people. We’ve been working on that, but he will need some strong encouragement."
Sparrow is around 3 years old and 66 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. His adoption fee is $300.00. If you

How about a little cuteness overload with your coffee this morning? 🥰 Koda is our pup that came into the shelter with an injured paw and Flint came into a different shelter with injuries from being mauled. Both have made amazing recoveries and are heading up here this weekend! We are truely indebted to both boys' Texas fosters who chose to take on the harder medical cases to, not only save their lives, but nurse them back to health so this journey could be possible.
Now THIS is what we call an incredible transformation! Koda is all healed and will be headed to Michigan soon. We are indebted to his Texas foster mom for remaining vigilant with his splint changes, which meant he healed without surgery and is now a normal, happy puppy!
It's a beautiful day here in Michigan, but we wanted to make this Sunday a snow day! ❄️ We have found over the years that most Texas dogs LOVE the snow, and Martini is no exception. She came from a shelter in deep southern Texas and this was her first experience with snow. If you adopted a southern dog from us who loves the snow as much as Martini, please post a picture or video here.
Two of our Alabama hurricane dogs, Puptart and Beckett, are enjoying their time hanging out at Ross Kennels LLC!
Lastly for #MakeADogsDay, we want you all to meet Jacob. He joined 72 other dogs that flew up here to Michigan from Texas yesterday going to several different rescues. The shelter vet believes he has Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy, which may be what's causing his bones to not form properly, hence his staggered walk. We have an appointment with our vet next week to confirm this diagnosis and start him on the road to recovery. Despite his abnormal gait, he is a happy boy, and we are going to do everything we can to make him better.
As this wonderful day nears to an end, we want to implore everyone to please consider an Underdog when you are looking to adopt a new family member!
October 22...our favorite day of the year, because today is Make A Dog's Day! This day was started by Subaru 6 years ago to highlight and promote the adoption of seniors and special needs dogs who rarely make it out of high intake shelters. We have saved quite a few of these special dogs (and a few kitties) over the years.
Meet Froggy! We saw that he was on the euthanasia list at a Texas shelter. He was in the medical ward with absolutely no interest from other rescues. While we aren't sure what happened, he was unable to walk at all. He was just a pup back then and we just couldn't bear the fact that he was going to die, so we tagged him and brought him up here. Low and behold, his foster mom fell in love with him and the rest is history! He loves his wheelchair, and he loves to play just like any other dog. #MakeADogsDay
