Many of you already know that I am an Akitas enthusiast and breeder, but I am also very involved in rescue. This year, my rescue Japanese Akita, Jax, and I are once again Whisker Walking to raise money for the rescue that saved his life...BEAR! We would greatly appreciate any support! Our goal is to raise $1000 by June 1st! Thanks go everyone that has already given us your support!

Hi everyone!  Remember me?  I’m Jax, the white Japanese Akita puppy whose life was saved by Big East Akita Rescue, or BEAR as I love to call them, in 2017.  I was found roaming the streets of Texas at about 6-7 months of age and turned into a shelter for digging into someone’s yard…sheesh.....

Isn't this a sweet looking guy?? This is Blue Moon, or as he is affectionately called, Moonie! This little guy visits with us to keep his osteoarthritis under control. Because he is not a fan of our acupuncture needles, despite using the very small kitty ones, we used the laser to stimulate the acupuncture points on Moonie. This way, he doesn't feel anything and we accomplish the same treatment for him. We also use Low Level Light Therapy to reduce inflammation in his joints! He loves his sessions and his owner likes seeing how much more comfortable this kiddo is following his treatments!
Does your pet have osteoarthritis? Come have a consult with us at Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort and let's see how we can help in conjunction with what your DVM is already doing for your pet! Remember...if they don't like needles, we have other options!

It's all about the Meridians!

Each Meridian corresponds with an important organ in the body...Stomach, Spleen, Kidney, etc for a total of 12 Regular Channels (Meridians). These Meridians flow along acupuncture points as you can see in the photo below. Assessing these Meridians, along with Pulse and Tongue evaluation, helps the TCVM practitioner decide what your pet's TCVM pattern diagnosis is and where to place the acupuncture needles to best benefit him or her.

TCVM - Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine

Stay tuned as we talk about Tongue and Pulse evaluations!

We would like for everyone to meet this super sweet kitty, Benjamin! He is loved by Ashley Madison Hall and her family, especially by her son, Rhett. Benjamin is a senior citizen, almost 19 years old. He has been visiting with us regularly for cold laser therapy, to help keep joint inflammation under control and improve kidney function, and acupuncture to help with his mobility, appetite, and overall well being.
He enjoys the treats we provide while he is getting his treatments. What a wonderful boy he is and we sure enjoy helping him to feel the best he can!

If your cat is showing signs of slowing down, having kidney problems, decreased appetite, maybe not as playful as he or she used to be, come visit with us for a consult on how Dr. Wagner can help to keep your cat as active and healthy for as long as possible, always in conjunction with what your veterinarian is currently doing!
Exclusively at Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort, but she also does home visits if your family member is uncomfortable leaving the home. Give us a call at 979-764-7387, we would love to visit with you!

Feline Renal (Kidney) Disease...no words any cat owner wants to hear. Unfortunately, as our kitties age, often times this diagnosis is made by your DVM. Did you know that cold laser therapy and acupuncture can help these kitties live longer and feel better as they are challenged by this aging process? We work in conjunction with your veterinarian to provide an integrative approach to your best friend's care and wellness.

Come see us for a consult and let's discuss how your kitty might benefit from an acupuncture prescription and regimen. Contact us at Aggieland Animal Health Center at 979-764-7387. Dr. Wagner will be more than happy to visit with you!

Is your performance dog slowing down? Is he or she not quite clearing that jump like you know they can or maybe your agility runs are slower than you think they should be? Perhaps having an Acupuncture exam may help...sometimes we can find conditions with a TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) exam that may be overlooked with routine physical exams.

Let us show you how acupuncture treatments can contribute to bringing that athlete of yours back to his or her game! Come in for a consult, we would love to discuss your concerns with you and see how we can help!
Visit us at Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort, 979-764-7387. Dr. Wagner has 10 years experience with veterinary acupuncture and is certified through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society - IVAS.

This is called a Meridian Clock. Did you know that just like you, your pets also have a Circadian Rhythm to their daily activities? This clock represents the times in a 24 hour period when certain organ systems are active and when they are "sleeping".

Knowing when your pet is agitated, awake when should be sleeping, or even what time of day they consistently have diarrhea, can help your TCVM practitioner make a proper diagnosis for an accurate acupuncture point prescription! So the next time your sleeping companion wakes you up in the middle of the night..make a quick glance at your bedside clock because your TCVM veterinarian will most likely ask...what time at night was that when he woke you up?

Hip Dysplasia!
Words no dog owner wants to hear as a diagnosis for their family member, but unfortunately, it happens all to often. Common treatment options often include NSAIDs for pain, sometimes even surgery if the condition is severe enough.

Have you ever considered acupuncture and cold laser therapy for this? Both of these work in conjunction with your current treatment plans, but aid in decreasing pain, improving mobility and making your family member a happier pup! Let us show you how we can improve your dog's quality of life as they struggle with hip dysplasia or osteoarthritis! This can be used on all ages and always keep in mind, when we do acupuncture we are treating the entire body, not just the area of pain!

Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort is the place to call, ask for a consult with Ilka Wagner-Van Zandt Dvm, CVA. Certified in Veterinary Acupuncture since 2014. 979-764-7387.

Let's talk Dog Knees!

Has your pet been diagnosed with a cruciate tear in a knee? This is similar to an ACL tear in people, we just call them cranial cruciate tears in our dogs. They are often times be very painful and frequently require surgery for adequate mobility in the future.

Is your pet going to have surgery, maybe a TPLO or a TTA?

Acupuncture and cold laser therapy can help in both the acute injury time as well as the recovery period, both by improving healing and controlling pain. Often times pets can't get into a surgical facility for several weeks, in the meantime, these modalities can help keep your family member more comfortable by reducing inflammation and adding to the pain control protocol prescribed by your DVM.

Call us at Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort, we would love to have you come in for a consult or schedule a home visit with Dr. Wagner
