Many more people want to titer test their dogs before re-vaccinating.
But I get messages like this:
'What do I do? My vet doesn't believe titer tests have any value, and they are pressuring me to give a booster only 1 or 3 years after their last C3 (or F3)!'
or
'My vet will titer test, but they are ridiculously expensive - $3-500, way more than a vaccination! What do I do?'
or
'My vet just laughs at me when I want a titer test, and I feel like they are poo-pooing my valid concerns.'
Here are some important reasons why vets are only PART of a much LARGER problem. You need to understand all of this so you can advocate strongly for your pets, and make sure they don't get injured by an unnecessary vaccination.
Here are the reasons.
1) Vets aren't taught the science of duration of immunity at university (I wasn't). Dr Ronald Schultz has proven that these vaccines last at least 5-7 years, often longer.
This really annoys me, because the veterinary establishment DEMANDS evidence for anything complementary or holistic, but clearly IGNORES robust evidence about the duration of immunity!
2) Vets don't get taught about titer testing at university in most vet schools (I wasn't).
It's highly effective. It measures immunity. If your pets have adequate antibodies, they interfere with the vaccine and stop the production of more antibodies.
3) If hospitals send titer tests out to an external lab, they are eye wateringly expensive.
All vet hospitals can order in the biogal vaccicheck in-house titer test kits (I use these) - they make titer testing affordable!
4) Vaccine companies are BIG sponsors of vet schools and veterinary associations.
There is a vested interest there in selling a lot of vaccines and making a lot of profit. Veterinary associations create the suggested vaccination guidelines. They don't want to kill their cash cow.
5) Vaccinations are a a big earner for vet hospitals! I know that when I stopped the status quo of yearly/3 yearly vaccinations in my first home visit practice, I lost 30% of my income.
That's a huge disincentive for practice owners, who usually make pretty damn low profit margins. In fact, making that change would possibly put a lot of vets right out of business unless they increased the rest of their fees quite a lot.
6) It's hard to stand up to authority figures. I.e your vet!
That's why you'll often fold in the face of pressure, and allow your vet to give your pets a vaccination you may later regret. I saw a little dog who's owner was pressured to give a re-vaccination, did so, and he relapsed with his allergies the same day. That's NOT a coincidence.
The solution is you, and millions more like you, all kindly confronting your vets, showing them the evidence, demanding titer testing, asking them to get in the more affordable in-house kits, and creating positive change from the ground up!
let me know in the chat- have you titer tested? What were the results? Have you had vets push back against you wanting titer testing?
