It’s that time of year in Vet Med that we see dogs coming in for orthopedic injuries due to slipping on ice! Just like us, dogs are prone to falling and slipping! One of the several benefits of paw shaving for our furry footed friends is to create more surface area and traction for their paw pads.

In between your professional groomings, I am happy to help upkeep your fur friend’s toes be in snow and ice ready condition!

This also helps aid in snowball accumulation in between the toes (which usually causes chewing and licking, hi, 👋🏼 welcome secondary infections!)

❄️ SNOW DAY POLICIES❄️

It’s December, so I have to stop ignoring the fact that snow and ice is inevitable! I know the following information may seem obvious, but it is a PSA for all of my clients for the winter season.

When inclement weather arises and negatively affects road conditions to where my safety on the roads could be compromised, I will reach out to my scheduled clients that day for rescheduling. This also applies to school cancellations and/or delays or early closings.

In celebration of Small Business Saturday, I’d like to take a moment to THANK all of my absolutely incredible clients from past to present and all those who I am excited to work with in the future! This business adventure was never anticipated to be as successful for me as it turned into be these past 3 years, so I am so incredibly proud and grateful to serve you and your pets in the best way I know how!

Your support of me and my business has given me such purpose after my many years of serving in the Veterinary office, and I am so genuinely THANKFUL for each of you, for making this idea I had into a real career. I am so happy to show up to each and every day. It’s more than just a job to me, & it’s more than just taking care of your pet’s nails. It’s building these trusting and strong supportive relationships with both my clients and their pets.

It’s FriYAY! I had a day packed with so many fur friends to kick off the weekend, with so many beautiful feline friends today 🐈‍⬛ Here’s a few who were willing to be photographed for me❤️

Here’s a fun fact about cats if you didn’t know!

Cats can jump up to SIX times their body length. Their powerful leg muscles help them leap to great heights and land gracefully. I am amazed that my teeny kitten can already scale and average countertop.

Today I met a Mama and daughter duo as new friends to the Paws 2 Go family, Lily and Kyla. Several years ago, in her younger years, Lily was featured in 2015’s American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani’s, official music video of “I’ll Wait for You”. This is just your friendly reminder to please have payment ready for me at the time of service!

I have chosen to utilize some of the simplest payment methods for my clients when it comes to paying for your services all which include cash, check, or Venmo.

Backtracking to pinpointing then chasing down missing payments at the end of the week from days old services is not particularly something I enjoy doing or having to mention, but as a business, I do hope I can just continue to make it clear that payments are expected at the time of service. Happy Monday! New week, new fur friends! Kicking off the week was meeting this little 11 week old furball (who did great for his first trim, by the way!) 🐈‍⬛ Just like puppies, kittens need handling exposure and desensitization to make their future nail trims an effortless task.

If a cat is uncomfortable with their feet being handled, it makes the trim that much more stressful for them. With kittens, we have the ability to nuture a good relationship with handling from the start. Use food, affection, and play as a reward for good behavior!

Posting this, however, as today I had several paw pad fur trims, and it is important to highlight some reasons why this type of grooming benefits our fur friends! 🐾🐾

Injury visibility: It's easier to spot injuries between the paw pads when the fur is trimmed.

Reduced chewing: Dogs may lick and chew their paws less if there's less fur to chew on.

Reduced matting: Trimming the fur reduces the risk of mats forming between the toes, which can make it painful for the dog to walk.

Reduced ice buildup: In snowy areas, short hair prevents ice from building up on the dog's paws.

Reduced Risk of Infection: long hair traps moisture whether it is from wet outdoor surfaces or from licking. Trapped moisture harbors bacteria which then leads to skin infection. Shorter hair in between the toes reduces that risk of infection.

Improved traction: Shortened fur provides more traction on slippery surfaces.

Reduced tracking: Long fur can track outdoor debris inside, including much more mud on rainy days! Also objects like grass seeds, burrs, twigs, stones, dried poo, and chewing gum can get caught in the dog's paws.

This is Diggs, the youngest new member of the Paws 2 Go family!🐾 At just 10 weeks old, he is a little nugget of energy who had his first nail trim with me this evening. In between the wiggles and waggles, we trimmed the little razors on his toes with a couple nights worth of treats to go along with it😅

In 2010, I started my very first job as a veterinary technician. I absolutely LOVED the hospital I worked at, but some years later, I tearfully moved on to just to advance my career in veterinary medicine. I was so blessed to be beside so many incredible veterinarians who paved the way to who I am as a professional today.

Fast forward 14 years, and life has it’s fun way of making full circles. One of the very first veterinarians I worked with, his wife was also a veterinarian who I got to know and love, and she has made an impressive career over the years. She and I re-connected recently and she is paving her way with owning her own house call veterinary service! This is so exciting and in its infancy, but as we know, compassionate care is leveled up when in the home environment. Now is an excellent time to become a client of hers! I am SO excited to advocate for her and cheer her on to grow her clientele, as she is primarily looking to serve the Farmington Valley area alongside me.

I had the pleasure of cutting the little nails of these sweet babies today that one of my clients is fostering. Yep, you bet, these babies are up for adoption!!

Strawberry (L) and Persimmon (R) are siblings looking for a forever home! They are 14 weeks old, fixed, UTD on vaccinations and ready for a new family! They are sooo sweet and playful! Ugh, I sure do love my job!🥰

Come with me on a sneak peek of daily desensitization exercises with my 12 week old kitten! 🐱 When done frequently, cats can be trained to accept full body handling especially for those pesky tasks like claw clipping! When you’re someone like me who sees everything from “the other side”, It CAN’T just be all about love and gentle affectionate soothing petting when it comes to handling and touching our fur companions. We need to get down to business and create positive associations with manipulation and building trust in uncomfortable situations. Every pet deserves to feel safe and happy when being handled! For cats, I use a high value treat like the squeezable tubes. Whatever is in this stuff you guys, I’m telling you, the cats go crazy for. No matter if your cat is young or old, let’s be a team, and give our cats the best experiences as we can!
