Ode to Lucy, our clinic cat…….. I (Dr Miller) first met Lucy when a client brought her in to us in 2005 as a young adult. She showed up at his house and he wanted to make sure she was O.K. She was pregnant. He kept her and then when the kittens were old enough, we took her and the kittens. We adopted the kittens out as well as Lucy. She went few a few places and ended up back with me. I couldn’t have her as an inside cat, so she became an outside kitty/mouser. She thrived for years! She was so patient and kind to my young children, dogs, and even chicks. All she ever wanted was to be held and loved. Her health started failing in the fall of 2020. I didn’t want Lucy to spend her last months in the cold, so I took her to the clinic. She bounced back over the winter. She was in chronic kidney failure, but did great on prescription food. In the winter of 2021, we noticed a tumor in her eye. I wanted to keep her comfortable knowing she wouldn’t be with us for much longer, so I took her eye, and she thrived with the help of special food, medications, and fluids. She became the head of the clinic, having all her wants and needs met. She could be very demanding for attention and food. Lucy greeted clients and you could always hear that loud purr. She started to become very slow last year, but around that time an arthritis monthly injection came to the market, so we thought we would make her our test subject…..and she thrived. She did so well. She had all the nicknames; Wucy, Wuc Wuc, Ole Bones, Crypt Keeper, Energizer Bunny. She was so very loved by so many people. Over the weekend, it became very clear that her 19+ year old body was tired and failing. I made the decision to let her go with dignity, at home, outside surrounded by her kids. Oh, how she loved “her kids.”
She will be greatly missed by so many. She was truly a one in a million. Rest easy ole bones
Happy Memorial Day. We are closed today for the holiday. Enjoy this beautiful and remember why we celebrate it.
It’s National Poison Prevention Week. Please use Extreme caution when taking human medications around your pet.
Well, no good deed goes unpunished! I had to take down the picture post as a scammer was posting under everyone’s comments that they won. I tried to save as many pictures as possible. I apologize.
Dr Carls had a 4 legged supervisor today (Cooper). He was making sure those images of his horse friend looked good. Cooper approved!

Update- phones are back on!!
Now that I got your attention with a handsome young man……our phone lines are currently down and we are waiting to get it fixed. If you have any emergencies, please come in or if you need anything else, please email us at [email protected] or [email protected]
We are hoping to have this fixed by end of day.
We finally got to use our new surgery suite and kennel suites this week. We are excited on the progress. We have gotten away with no closures due to the addition build…..until now. Now, we have to put new flooring in part of the existing building which will force us to be closed next Friday and Saturday (2/9 and 2/10). We still will be seeing equine emergencies, but due to the noise and smell we will not be able to remain open those days for surgeries or appointments. If you need refills, please let us know so they can be ready and picked up before next Friday. Thank you for your understanding.
We helped welcome 5 little frenchies into the world this morning. Mamma was so good! Great job, Coco! You have beautiful babies.
We have the main walls down. Before and after. Please forgive the noise and have some patience as our main working area has been taken over by construction, but it should get better in the next week. We are getting excited about this being done.
It is a great weather for making snowmen, but not for driving for the next 24 hours. We will be closing at 2 PM today and will be closed tomorrow (Saturday) as well due to dangerous road conditions. Stay safe everyone.
Due to the beautiful snow fall and worsening road conditions, we will close early today at 4pm. Be safe out there tonight.
A client who is an East Moline fireman asked us about where they could order oxygen masks for pets to put on their trucks. These will help pets that are in need of help from house fires. It was a no-brainer to go ahead and buy the masks for the trucks as a way to give back.
Have a happy and safe New Year’s Eve!
The hallway wall is down and the new bathroom is usable. We are making progress!!
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

This World Rabies Day, let’s advocate for the elimination of rabies. Though rabies is a global issue affecting more than 150 countries and territories, we can still help prevent it with proper vaccination protocols and awareness programs. 🌎🐈🐕 . . #WorldRabiesDay

It’s easy to understand why bringing a pet to run errands is tempting. But leaving them in a hot car for just 10 minutes can result in up to a 13-degree temperature hike! If you’re ever in doubt about whether it’s too hot for them, it’s usually best to leave them at home. Courtesy of bit.ly link . . #PetSafety
