Thanks to Jim Goetz (tagging c/o Carolyn Fray) who picked up supplies from Beach Paws Boutique and worked on the dog park a couple weeks ago! Thanks to everyone who has volunteered with Colonial Beach Dog Park - Robin Grove, Colonial Beach VA Dog Park Supporters & Cleaning Staff, and/or Colonial Beach Rivah Dogs, to support Robin Grove Dog Park over the years. I had a meeting with the Colonial Beach Police Department Chief Parsons, the Town of Colonial Beach Manager Natasha Tucker, Parks and Recreation, Town of Colonial Beach, and Director of Public Works Chris Rutchy last week about the issues at the dog park. I told them about the issues that have been reported to me, including at least one dog who displays aggressive behavior towards other dogs in the park, and the failure of some folks to pick up after their dogs. We talked about multiple options for improving compliance with the rules as posted on the gate and written in our ordinance. Colonial Beach Rivah Dogs will fund a load of mulch and Public Works will pick up and deliver and spread. CB Rivah Dogs will also fund signs posted with the appropriate phone numbers to call to report inappropriate behavior by dogs and/or people. The Chief and Town Manager have promised to follow up on any complaints. Please follow the Official Robin Grove Dog Park FB Page and for additional information! Please report issues via phone to (804) 224-7612 (PD) and (804) 224-7181 immediately. Pictures and video will be helpful to the Police and Town Manager in following up.

As a dog trainer, I hear statements like these from frustrated and embarrassed pet owners frequently. Believe me when I say I feel your pain. It is no wonder pet owners are baffled when the very same dog that returns when called at home (without fail) will just as quickly disappear into the sunset w...

Dog Day is being held at Robin Grove Dog Park tomorrow from 8:30 to 11:00. We will be setting up at 7:30. The right side of the dog park (with the shelter) will be used for Dog Day. All dogs coming into the right side must remain on leash, register for Dog Day, and be off-leash during the time they are competing. The left side of the dog park will be open for normal dog park off-leash socializing, play and training.

UPDATE: The Dog Park is OPEN. Please follow the rules!
The Dog Park remains closed. The Town hopes to open it soon. Just FYI: Whether you use the Dog Park or not...if you are a resident of Westmoreland County and own a dog, you are required to have a current dog license - details, below. You can mail a copy of your dog's current Rabies Certificate, along with a check for the fee (see below) to Westmoreland County Treasurer, PO Box 730, Montross VA 22520. They will send you your dog tag by return mail. If you don't live in Westmoreland County, you can use the park as long as you have a current dog tag/license from the jurisdiction that is your permanent residence.

DOG TAGS
All dogs that are kept in Westmoreland County must get a new tag every year. Dog tags go on sale at the County Treasurer’s office on October 1 and are due by December 31 of each year. You must bring a current rabies vaccination certificate with you to purchase a dog tag.

There has been some discussion on other FB pages about the mulch used in the dog park. The mulch is 100% Hardwood Mulch, freshly double shredded, NO ADDITIVES, that came directly Walker Sand and Stone, who got it directly from the mill. This is NOT cocoa bean mulch, which contains theobromine and caffeine (like chocolate) and are toxic to dogs.

UPDATE: The Dog Park is OPEN. Please follow the rules!
Why isn't the Dog Park Open? Under the increased Covid-19 restrictions, cities, towns, and/or counties are responsible for enforcing certain Covid rules and cleaning protocols at parks. The town does not have dedicated staff for the Dog Park. At present, there is only enough staff to open Torrey Smith Park. All other playground parks are still closed as a result. The Town is in the process of setting up a Parks and Rec Commission and hiring a Parks and Rec Director.
