When you forget to make your next batch of training treats (that take over three hours to make) and you have a full day of training the next day....and it's already late. You watch dog shows and heat up the oven.

We haven't posted in a long time, which our marketing gurus say is bad. Sorry. We like Facebook. It's cool for bragging to our high school classmates about how great we really aren't doing. But, it's winter here, and we're picking up the yard between snowfalls. Oh, and we're busy coaching big and small dogs on how to greet strangers.

I've coached thousands of kids and hundreds of dogs. Every once in a while, I coach a kid or dog that touches my heart more than others. Tonight, was my last "coaching session" with a dog (Bernese Mountain Dog...a bear of a dog). This last coaching session hurt. Tears welled up in my eyes as I gave his owners their last instructions. My kids even helped dad coach this one. No pics, yet, because now I have an excuse to go see this dog again just to take pictures. I am following his Instagram page, though.

Our marketing guru says we need to post more on social media. Guru doesn't live in a world of dog fur, slobber, and canine kisses, so thinks we have time to worry about social media. But, we like Guru. So, here is a post to the handful of people who actually follow us. Also a shameless pic of some of our own dogs who we've coached to "lay down, looking really cute, with your heads touching." We do have openings this summer for some new "student athletes." That's really why we're posting.

Wrapping up coaching with a few of our pups and their families this week, starting a couple of new puppies, and reuniting with an old favorite. We're told that we need to post more pics and reviews. That's how "marketing" works. We're so busy with the referrals that we have that we're hesitant. May need to bring more coaches aboard.

There isn't a "dog trainer" in this world that has a 100% success rate. We "train" living organisms. Every dog and every family is different, just like you and I. I call myself a dog "trainer" or "coach." But, I'm really a "dog owner trainer". Or "Coach." We specialize in aggressive dogs, or honestly, dogs that don't have any more options other than euthanasia. We save dogs' lives. Usually, it isn't the dog that needs help, it's the owners that do. That's why we train in your home and include your whole family. The two dogs in the photo are both rescues, one being severely abused and neglected by her former owners. Neither had much experience with a toddler.

Not the most appealing photo, but it's part of the job. Another batch of training treats ready for the rest of the week! No additives, preservative or chemicals. We go through 2/3 cup - 1 cup each session and count every treat/reward that your dog gets, often over 100/session.

We're booked up with wonderful pups! We train in your home, and there are only so many hours in a day. It's probably time to add some more coaches. If you are okay working with aggressive dogs or you can train a 4 month old pup to heel, give us a bark!

How do your dogs behave on vacation or travels? Like 21 yr old spring breakers or like friendly companions? It's not uncommon for our pups to totally change their behaviors when we travel. It doesn't have to be that way. We've trained dogs to jump into running helicopters, stay calmly in hotel rooms, travel 24 hours in a car, fly across the country in planes, and hike 24 miles in 24 hours. Here are our owner's three rescues during a last minute mountain get-away in a one room rustic cabin. (Disclaimer: This photo was taken a few hours prior to the bear snooping around outside. When that happened, the dogs weren't lying around looking cute.)

This sweet girl was about a year old when she took her first helicopter ride. She's so happy, looking out the window! She ran up and jumped right in while it was on the landing pad with rotors going. So, if you need someone to help your dog enjoy helicopter rides, give us a call!

How does your dog let you know that it's time for you to drop everything you are doing and open the door so he/she can go potty? One of our pack lightly "rings the bell." Be careful if you have more than one dog, and you train them all to do it! One of our rescues, who had lived all of her four years outdoors, was not potty-trained when we got her (Imagine a four-yr old with zero training.). She saw one of our other dogs ring the bell to go outside and SLOWLY started putting things together. I emphasize "slowly" because for a while, she used to p*e ON the bell.

Snow days are good days for treat-making. Many of the dogs we coach have diet restrictions, so our Turkey Jerkey treats are very popular and inexpensive. We can go through a cup per hour (around 100 pieces) when training.

If your dog is like most, he/she gets pretty excited when the doorbell rings. Here, Boomer, an awesome student, is learning "Place" which is one step to learning a Polite Greeting, meaning only saying, "Hi" to guests when he is invited to do so. Boomer will eventually go to his place, when commanded to do so, excitedly waiting for permission to greet whomever walks in the door. This is one of the reasons we train in your home, to understand any distractions and how things work in your dog's territory.
Thank you, Kami Rusinak, for capturing Boomer's success and allowing me to share it!

Containers inside of boxes insides of tote containers. This afternoon's coaching supplies for three wonderful canine coaching clients. Yes, I'm using unpopped popcorn. Yes, I use a shallow box/flat (the one with the the popcorn and Gatorade bottle). Yes, I use the Gatorade bottle. Yes, homemade treats for those dogs with restrictive diets (cheaper than buying special treats). All ready to go for in-home coaching!

Does your dog walk you, instead of you walking him/her? Pulling? Leading? The best way to remedy this is to walk three dogs at the same time. It's scientifically proven that when you walk three dogs simultaneously, they won't pull on the leash and they stay in their lanes. Well, it's scientifically proven if you've let Colorado Canine Coaching coach you and your dog(s).
The light brown dog looking at me in the first pic is the "aggressive dog" who was going to be euthanized before the owner brought him to me. I love posting pics of him, so get used to it!
