I just wanted to touch on a couple things I have been seeing lately involving something I care deeply about…… can you guess what that is??...
Well, DUH…….AXOLOTLS!

I have been seeing an increase in posts in various groups asking for help with their new axolotls that are way too young to have been sold. Some have been as small as 1”! This is way too tiny to send these guys home, especially to a new axolotl owner! They are sensitive at this stage and require live food that is not always readily available locally such as live black worms. This is just one example of why it is not ethical to sell them so young. I will not sell an axolotl that is under 3” and often I wait until they are a bit closer to 4” and eating foods that are readily available to you. I even send you home with some of the pellets they are eating to help the transition go smoother at no additional cost.
I have also seen many animals purchased aka “rescued” from a pet store with missing limbs or in poor health. I completely understand not wanting an animal to suffer, but that is on the pet store not you. Most times they will still take your money and then you have a sick animal that may need veterinary care even worse, die. Buying sick animals is not doing the species any favors. You are just supporting the pet stores who do not take care of them. When this happens we are just giving them money to go buy more so they can make more sales. I know this sounds mean but we can't stop this unless we do not support them. I do want to mention I am not telling you not to buy from a pet store, I am just stating we should not support stores who sell sick animals.
Please keep this information in mind, and remember that there are reputable breeders out there, like myself, who are ethical and take great care of their animals. We are almost all small businesses and do this out of love for the species and to support our hobby. If I ever do not have what you are looking for, please just reach out, I am more than happy to refer you to another reputable breeder who will get you a healthy and beautiful axolotl.

Below is one of our healthy young albinos from our RockBand Clutch hatched Oct 18, they are about 3" but we are still working on transitioning foods before they go home.

I changed the theme of the clutch up.

They should be able to be listed in the next couple of weeks. Shooting for the second week of January if they cooperate! They hatched Oct 18th.
There are albinos and dirty leucies from this pairing . I will get some sneak peek pics up soon!
No gfp , sorry!

"Crucio" update! Customer appreciation post.
Our beloved girl from our Spells and Charms clutch of 1/4 true a.mexicanium finally found a forever home.
She looks amazing with her new sister. She's still young so she'll fill out and catch up in size in no time.
I am over here, drooling over her sister. She is beautiful.

I am, as usual this time of year, starting to see a lot of posts about “oops” axolotl clutches, begging for help and guidance after the event. Just as disturbingly, I see breeders post pics of tubs full of hundreds, if not thousands, of eggs and/or hatchlings. Not cool, people.

I get complaints that my posts are too long. A lot. I do try to limit the length of my posts, and honestly more gets left on the cutting room floor than I post. I feel I need all those words to clarify points and provide context, or I will be flooded with reams of “yeah, but what about…”, and “that’s only true if…”, and “you’re stupid”, etc.

But I get it: Many of you have been raised on soundbites, memes, Twitter (I will never say “X”), and TicToc. Punctuation, exposition, and clarification are not your thing.

So here is a severe edit from an old post (from April 10,2024) with all the extraneous stuff cut away::

…producing and distributing a large number of animals… is a problem. … inbreeding in the pet trade has increased with each generation. …with so many animals from desirable lineages flooding the pet trade it is inevitable that closely related animals will sometimes get paired.

When pet shops get a hundred babies from… an “oops” clutch, or someone… hatches an “oops” clutch because they don’t have the good sense or courage to do the right thing and cull the eggs, the odds that those animals are not the offspring of siblings or first cousins is pretty low.

(How) to reduce the problem?
(a) Produce smaller clutches, and
(b) Breed each animal only once or twice.

If you produce 500 babies from one clutch… there is a very high probability that some of those siblings are going to end up paired together to produce more in**ed offspring.

If… you produce only 50 offspring… the probability that any of those axolotls will be paired with their siblings or other close relatives is only one tenth as great!

If you hatch 40 and sell 460 (eggs), you're still producing 500 babies from the same pairing!

"But wait," you say, …”If I hatch only 50 eggs I may lose them all!" …you have no idea what you are doing and should stop doing it. …your survival rate with a clutch of 30 to 40 babies should be 95% or better.

Limiting any axolotl to just one or two clutches is a simple way to maintain some genetic diversity.

(Producing smaller clutches means) the breeder is raising... fewer, healthier offspring, and can therefore command higher prices. Producing fewer offspring per clutch and per adult axolotl benefits the axolotls, the breeders, and the pet owners. Everyone wins!

There seems to be some confusion about my shipping practices so I want to clarify this for all.

I ONLY ship on Tuesday now. No ifs and or buts. I work full time Tuesday is the ONLY day I will ship live animals period.

ALSO!!!!! The animals need to fast before shipping or they'll 💩 in the water. I will not allow this to happen. I care deeply about my animals and will not subject them to this and have them get sick or even die.

This info is well communicated in my shop, the personalized confirmation emails I send out and in my terms and conditions.

Last reminder:
NO MORE ORDERS WILL BE SHIPPED UNTIL TUESDAY JAN 7th!!!!

Thanks a LOTL
I appreciate each and every one of you who have placed orders this holiday season. It was fun yesterday carefully packing them all up with care and some extra goodies in there for everyone.
