We love Harley's Hope Foundation as a bedrock of animal assistance in our community. Great to hear that they are focusing on the older demographic of people, some of whom may be impacted by rising costs and be on a fixed income.

We promised you a post-op photo of Peanut the cat, and here it is. Peanut had a nasty growth removed from her lower eyelid yesterday at Bijou Animal Hospital. Peanut, an elderly kitty who lives with Marilyn, a local senior, spent the night at the hospital, but went home today minus that ugly tumor!

In case you missed the notice on our website, Harley's Hope is now focusing exclusively on older Colorado pet parents, 50 and over, like Marilyn. Why? Colorado is one of the fastest aging states in the country. Older adults often face unique challenges, both physically and financially, which can make it difficult for them to care for their pets—yet studies have shown that pets can provide crucial companionship, emotional support, and even physical health benefits, especially to older pet parents.

By tailoring our services to meet the specific needs of older pet parents, Harley’s Hope is helping to address not only the health and well-being of the pets, but also the individuals, ensuring they can continue to experience the joy of having a loyal companion for many years to come.

Heather, the mastermind behind PPVC’s laser therapy program, is shifting her sessions from Thursdays to Mondays. Also called PBMT (for photobiomodulation therapy), these sessions are provided at our Quiet Clinic in a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere. You can also schedule PBMT with Christin on Tuesdays.
Heather is a registered veterinary technician, also certified as a small animal massage therapist, with considerable experience administering PBMT. She worked with Dr. Marsden, one of the pioneering veterinarians in Colorado Springs, to utilize a Companion Class IV laser. Heather primarily treats patients with chronic arthritic pain or other medical conditions such as soft tissue injuries.
Christin offers decades of experience as a human massage therapist and as a veterinary assistant to provide PBMT treatments. All PPVC medical staff frequently uses this modality for acute conditions such as wounds, infections, surgeries, and injuries at our main clinic.

PSA from Teddy Bun - please don't buy live rabbits for Easter baskets. According to the ASPCA, "...during the ensuing weeks [after Easter], animal shelters are inundated with these same rabbits after they wear out their welcome in their new homes...When animals chew through electrical wires, books, baseboards, doorjambs, or Easter lilies, reality sets in that caring for a rabbit can be a lot of work."

Do your research about what it takes to have a rabbit as a pet. There are great organizations dedicated to this practice including The Colorado House Rabbit Society. They can guide you to help set up spaces for them, figure out what food they need and help keep them in their loving homes.

Another option - there are new mechanical bunnies that look pretty impressive and require far less care! Adopt, don't shop, but only bring a pet into your home if you are dedicated to doing what it takes to keep them with you!
