Some pictures from a couple of trail rides over the last few weeks. Soaking up every moment of the warm fall weather before winter hits! So nice to be able to ride off property with clients and have the horses take it all in so well. I think they felt refreshed too!

PS, when your horse over jumps the downhill landing of a very small table jump and you’re not at all prepared, the amount of separation between you and the saddle results in blowing your air vest and your horse bolting at the sound 😆 luckily she’s a saint and only ran away for a couple of strides and somehow I stayed on. Thank you Isabella for being such a good girl! 🦄❤️🤦🏻‍♀️

Saturday was a fun day of showing with Parker Williams and Maddie Shelton! They both got to ride horses other their own and it was awesome to see them excel on different mounts.

Maddie got to play in the jumper ring with Rollie and they were amazing! She placed in all three classes out of 14 including a 3rd, and a 2nd in her stake class! Rollie is a barn favorite, and at 26 years old, he’s as spry as ever and he was strutting his stuff Saturday in the .75s. Thank you Jeremy Anne for sharing your very special boy with us!

Parker rode Wesley again and they did great competing in the impressive main hunter ring! She placed well in the eq division including a 4th in her medal class. Thanks so much Nicole Jennings for bringing Wesley down for Parker to show!

Thank you everyone for a fun and successful two weeks in Estes at the Copper Penny! Lots of improvement throughout for all! Danny and Jen were great stepping up in height. Wesley was pinch hitter for Parker for Finn and she had a blast with him and rode him beautifully! Homie quickly became a local celebrity with his own fan club and was such a great pony all two weeks! And Isabella was fantastic. Highlight was placing fifth in the high jumper speed derby and not having one rail all week two. Congrats riders and helpers and thank you again!

Danny made the cut in the daily photos from Estes too!! Beautiful ride by Parker Williams who’d only ever jumped him once before!

Isabella and I made the daily Copper Penny pics at Estes! She was fantastic in the 1.0m-1.10m mini prix! A rider rail kept us out of the jump off and ribbons, but I’m super happy with how we did overall.

Other highlights this week…

Danny has been awesome! Parker and I rode him in the Pro/Am derby and he was just out of the ribbons. He pulled off a beautiful round with me in his single 2’6”-2’9” round Thursday to finish in second out of tough competition! He’s been great with Jen this week as she steps up to the modifieds, and they placed 3rd in their medal today!

Parker has been a catch rider extraordinaire, showing off Homie pony in the small pony division. He has been a total rock star, stepping up to the challenge of his first big away show, first time around the arena at 2 ft, and braving little oxers about his size. He has a literal fan club at Estes and is just a natural show pony. This amazing little dude is for lease or sale!

Parker has also been able to show Nichole Jennings Wesley, since Finn had to sit out this week. She hadn’t ridden Wesley before this week and she has put in some beautiful near flawless rounds with good placings in full divisions.

Truth. I’m guilty of this!

9 Facts About Perfectionism: A mindset that must be unlearned or will ultimately bring your riding down 🧠

1. Every rider makes mistakes, even the best of the best.
It’s an unavoidable, universal experience and all a part of the sport.

2. Mistakes are learning opportunities.
You can grow from them and become better because of them.

3. Hyper-focusing on mistakes helps them happen.
They both become a self-fulfilling prophecy and take your focus away from your ride.

4. Mistakes mean you’re on the right track.
You can’t improve, learn, overcome challenges, and level up without them.

5. It’s not what happened but how you move forward from it that matters the most.
Moving on from the mistake matters more than the mistake itself.

6. Mistakes are temporary.
Work to fix and put them in the past instead of dwelling and allowing them to stick around.

7. Mistakes don’t define you.
You may have had a bad ride, but that doesn’t mean you’re a bad rider.

8. Social media only shows highlights.
Everyone is struggling whether they post about it or not.

9. Perfect doesn’t exist.
It’s impossible to meet unattainable expectations.

A perfectionist mindset and a lack of an ability to accept mistakes will do much more harm than good for an athlete’s mental performance. Mistakes are a normal part of sport and life. Everyone makes mistakes no matter how talented of an athlete they may be. Since perfect doesn’t exist, holding yourself to an unrealistic standard will only set you up for disappointment every ride. Instead, give yourself permission to make mistakes, using them to your advantage by viewing them as valuable feedback and learning opportunities. Refer to this post whenever you begin to feel hard on yourself, and remember that you are not alone! 🏇🏽💭✨
