Hi everyone. We have a sweet kitty that needs a home. He came in as a stray. We looked for his home and posted him everywhere with no one coming forward. We neutered him, vaccinated him, and he tested negative for leukemia and FIV. We call him Stewie JR because he looks like our clinic cat in training Stewie, just the short-haired version. If you have a great home for him please reach out to see if he would be a good fit! 719-471-4457 or [email protected]

We are a busy practice, and sometimes we need to take time to pause and appreciate our staff. I had one of those opportunities to pause the other day. I got to see my nurses talking gently and stroking disoriented pets as they were waking up from anesthesia or nervous ones who were there for treatment. Itā€™s not unusual to see nurses carrying small dogs around in body slings to comfort or keep them warm while they are recovering from surgery. I quietly went up front and watched as my reception staff welcomed pets and greeted customers like old friends (because many of you are). I listened in the hallway to doctors laughing in the rooms with owners while examining their pets. I watched our kennel staff and tech assistants bustling between helping doctors, helping nurses, caring for pets, and cleaning the hospital. I love hearing all the laughter and good natured razzing that goes on at our place every day. I am incredibly grateful for all the amazing people who work at Bijou Animal Hospital. You all make our hospital so special and I am so proud of all of you!

Introducing Stewie! He is currently ā€œin trainingā€ as our new clinic cat. He is a very spirited young male who is currently spending most of his time in the back of the hospital. He loves the fish tank up front, so he gets to come up in the morning before we open and after closing. As soon as we feel we can trust him around the frequently opening doors up front, then you will start seeing him in the reception area. Isnā€™t he just the most handsome?

I know we have had customers tell us they canā€™t find an ER to see their exotic pets when we arenā€™t open. We just got notified that North Springs Veterinary Referral Center is now set up for pocket pets and small mammals, some fish (like Koi), birds, and reptiles. Just call ahead if one of your exotic pets needs to be seen after hours and they will instruct you

***CAUTION GRAPHIC IMAGE***
This is an educational post about cryptorchid neuter. Sometimes 1 or both testicles are retained. The retained testicles still produce testosterone. Not neutering your pets can cause prostate issues and increases the chances of cancer. When a pet is cryptorchid it is 13 times more likely for that dog to develop testicular cancer than a normal dog. This is a recent surgery Dr. Bausch did. The testicle on the right is the dogs regular testicle that was not retained the large mass on the left is the retained testicle.

People are starting to get their ballots, so I wanted to educate our customers about measure #129. The creation of a mid level practitioner in veterinary medicine is not something that needs to go to the voters to develop. Make no mistake, this is being driven by the corporations who are trying to take over veterinary medicine. They want to hire cheaper practitioners to work under one veterinarian so they can pay less labor but charge you the same prices as if you saw the veterinarian. All the stuff on the ballot about how this will reduce the cost of veterinary care or make veterinary care more accessible in rural areas is a bunch of BS. Corporations donā€™t buy up practices in rural areas, so donā€™t be fooled. Also, these mid level practitioners will be mostly doing their training online but will actually be allowed to do surgery (for which they will NOT be properly trained) after they are licensed. Keep our pets safe. Leave veterinary care in the hands of properly trained veterinarians. Vote no on #129.
