I'm working my way backwards through my photos 😊 back in September I went down to Wyoming to help trap swift foxes for reintroduction on the Ft. Belknap reservation in northcentral Montana. It was a bomber trap session, and we had all the foxes we needed and then some after just two nights! I handled all the foxes while the vets check their health and take samples and my colleague Hila Shamon took biometric measurements and attached their GPS collars. I'd never processed so many foxes in one day and my back and hands cramped by the end, but it was totally worth it to minimize the time the animals spent in captivity before being released into their new homes.

Hi everyone! It's been a while, but I've had such a busy and productive field season, and I can't wait to talk about it! First up: Ft. Belknap black-footed ferret program. Here is 1 of 19 wildborn kits we trapped and vaccinated this year. The new generation will keep this rare species thriving in their Montana homeland ❤️

Calling all smart naturalist friends! Anybody know what makes this fuzzy gall thing on silver sage brush in southeastern Montana. There were little black ants on the plant, too, but that could be a coincidence. Ants are everywhere.

Kouva and I took a drive to Browning to get my second Covid shot (thanks 🥰), and on the way home we stopped at Lake 5 for some R&R. It's so peaceful here during the off-season! Yes, that's in the distance.

Swift foxes may be small, but moving them from one place to another is a complicated process. We dealt with weather extremes, long work days, and uncooperative foxes. It took a team of biologists, wildlife technicians, veterinarians, and volunteers to pull it off successfully.
