We are super excited to see this team grow from strength to strength providing much needed services and helping our wonderful community.

🐾 We offer AKC Canine Good Citizen classes. Next class starts Saturday July 20th. 🐾

We get many inquiries regarding the requirements of training a Therapy Dog. Much of what goes into being a successful team is the partnership and bond between handler and dog. Add to that, the innate temperament of the dog itself; its sociability and desire to be around people. A Therapy Dog candidate must be adept at negotiating new environments, and adjusting to novel situations as each and every visit could potentially offer new experiences that a dog would not expect nor could be trained for.

We at the ITA Flathead Chapter encourage all handlers who are interested in becoming a candidate team to achieve their AKC Canine Good Citizen title. Open to any dog, purebred or mixed, registered or not. A great place to start to see how your dog does in various situations including a friendly neutral dog, stranger interactions and very basic obedience in new and novel environments. Not a requirement by any means, but gives the handler an idea of the basic steps that they may need to continue to work on before applying to be a prospective team.

ITA supports and stands by Force Free/Positive Reinforcement training in their program. Many trainers in the Flathead are offering CGC classes and tests in the upcoming months and we encourage those interested in pursuing Therapy Dog registration to be evaluated for their CGC. A CGC is not the end, but a great first step toward building a bond with your dog and discovering any weaknesses that you can work on.

ITA Flathead will be offering its next Therapy Dog Evaluation and workshop in November 2024. Please contact Lynne Hiatt, area coordinator, at [email protected] for more info. Also looking for volunteers to help with role play for the testing teams. A great way to learn more about the test if unsure of your readiness or if your dog not yet 2 years of age.

The biggest night of fireworks is nearly upon us. 🐾

While us humans are excitedly looking forward to a night of celebrations, your canine buddy is probably going to get a nasty fright. 🙄🥺

Especially if your dog has never experienced fireworks or had a bad experience in the past.

Nobody likes to see their dogs trembling with fright for hours on end. It is horrible for any owner to see their dog scared and anxious and not being able to help.

The key is to PREPARE!⬇️⬇️

Our dogs hearing is so much better than ours. The loud bangs will sound like bombs being dropped! Plus your dog will not be able to rationalize what is happening like us humans can.

Your dog will have no idea why there are suddenly loud bangs and extreme flashes of sudden light.

One of our kids, Emi is taking part in her School Fundraiser- raising vital funds for fun gym equipment!

Emi is still working hard on getting her Exercise minutes to collect donations for our school gym department. 💕 Deadline is June 3rd.

She has logged 1415 minutes so far! ♥️

We would love to get some funding for our gym to purchase Gaga Pits, Monkey bars and new gym equipment. This is all much needed! We all know that funding is tight!

We will be running a HAVE A GO scent area.... your dog can put their nose to the test and come and FIND you. Come and get your SNIFF ON!

Lots of local pet vendors will be there, groomers, boarding, pet stores, dog sitters, dog walkers, and SO MUCH more! FREE ENTRY. Come take part in the raffle too.

Fun dog competitions. Maybe your dog is the cutest of them all? Maybe the quickest of them all?

Come with the whole family....and have some fun! Well behaved leashed dogs are welcome!

Another awesome trailing seminar 🐕‍🦺🐾finished at the Arizona state SAR conference 2024. Arizona Search and Rescue Coordinators Association did an excellent job of organizing everything and making it run smoothly. ♥️💕

Big thankyou to Karen Paquette Karen Paquette , Ursula Ritchie Ursula Ritchie and Jasmin Hull for all your help and support over the weekend 👍👍 and thankyou to all the handlers, K9's and subjects for the hard work they put in😀🌞
