Bill has been a long time client here at Columbia Animal Clinic. We truly thank him for trusting us with his dogs over the years.
Thor has been coming to us since he was a baby and is the best boy.
We thought we would share with you all the joy these two are giving to those at the Cleveland Clinic.

Ever wonder why your cat doesn't want to eat the bottom layer of the food in their dish? It's all in the whiskers!
Cat whiskers, also known as vibrissae, are cats’ most important sensory organs, helping them understand their environment and navigate the world:
•Sensation: Whiskers are very sensitive to vibrations and changes in the air, allowing cats to sense objects without seeing them. The whiskers are full of nerve receptors and sensory cells that transmit tactile information to the brain.
•Navigation: Whiskers help cats navigate their surroundings, especially in low light or dark conditions. They can detect subtle changes in air currents, which helps cats avoid obstacles.
•Spatial memory: Cats use their whiskers to build a mental map of their surroundings.
•Balance and orientation: Whiskers help cats maintain their balance and sense of orientation.
•Hunting: Whiskers help cats hunt by guiding prey into their grasp.
Here are some other facts about cat whiskers:
•Whiskers are made from keratin, just like human hair, but they're much thicker.
•Cats are born with two sets of 12 whiskers, arranged in four lines on each side of their face.
•The length of a cat's whiskers depends on their breed. Longer-haired cats, like the Maine c**n, have longer whiskers.
•Whiskers grow back if the follicle isn't injured, and it takes about two weeks for them to grow back.
•Cats prefer to eat and drink from wide bowls, so their whiskers don't hit the sides.
•Each whisker is attached to a muscle, which allows the cat to control its movement.

Can we please normalize Veterinary Medicine and treat it like Human Medicine?
-Call in ADVANCE to make wellness appointments. We are extremely busy, especially now, so it may take a week or two to fit you in.
-If it's an emergency, by all means, call your primary care veterinarian first, but if we can't fit you in, GO TO AN EMERGENCY HOSPITAL. Don't yell and scream and demand to be seen because you've been "a long time client". You wouldn't call your pediatrician in the middle of the day and demand them to treat your son/daughter's broken leg would you?
-If going to an emergency hospital, be prepared to wait. Animal ER works just like Human ER. Most critical cases are seen first. Doesn't mean you won't get care, it just means you may have to wait a couple of hours.
-Yes, ER may cost more, but they're equipped with more staff and equipment to accommodate emergency situations.
-It takes time to do things. Lots of time. Running bloodwork, taking xrays, filling meds, etc. IT TAKES TIME. Be patient. Veterinary Nurses in ER will usually have multiple cases at once, and most times there is only ONE Veterinarian.
-We are ALL VERY OVERWHELMED and STRESSED. We love our jobs and our patients but we only have so many hours in the day.
PLEASE BE KIND. Be courteous, be understanding and please, please, please just be better prepared. Veterinary Medicine is not here to cater to you.
Thank you.
Please spay and neuter your pets.
Vaccines are a good thing.
Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes.
❤ So just because your pet doesn't "really" go outside, mosquitoes do not need an invitation to come inside.
Fleas and ticks can come in on you or even under door frames, please protect your pet with flea and tick medication

Hey everyone! I have been asked by several clients if I would be willing to sell some of the shirts they have seen me wear here at the clinic. I've decided that I would give it a go and see how many were interested. Please read the instructions carefully.

Changing Our Clinics Process of Operations & Functions
Columbia Animal Clinic is 100% committed to doing the right thing for our clients and associates, and that commitment has been at the forefront of every step taken during the past few weeks. Given the rapidly changing COVID-19 guidance, we've made the decision to change our clinics processes and how we operate in support of national efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Starting Monday, March 30, Columbia Animal Clinic became an ALL appointment clinic.
We are no longer taking walk-in appointments.
The hours of operation are:
Monday-Friday 9:30am – 7:00pm
Saturday 9:30am – 1:00PM
Please call the front desk at 440-236-8200 to make your appointment.
We realize the impact our clinics changes will have on our clients and assure you the well-being of every client and employee is a top priority.
In light of this decision, we want to make sure to give you flexibility regarding any medications and food that need to be ordered. We would like to encourage you to visit us at www.columbiaanimalclinic.net and use the links provided to reach our online store, set up your account. You can order ALL your pets’ medications and prescribed food through our website. We will temporarily not be carrying our usual selection of products in the clinic, in hopes to eliminate unnecessary visits into the clinic.
In this time of great uncertainty, our best defense is to all work together and be good to one another. Stay well, keep safe.
