Fostering Love and Hope

Is being a foster parent to an animal challenging? Sometimes. But is it rewarding? Always!

One of the most important ways someone can get involved in animal rescue is to be a foster parent. We’re always in need of foster homes for kittens and puppies, cats and dogs recovering from illnesses or challenged by the shelter environment. It can last a weekend, a week or a month depending on your capacity to share your home.

Becoming a foster parent is a wonderful way to get involved in saving animals.

Come to our Foster Orientation on Sunday, January 12th at 5:00 pm at the shelter to learn what a rewarding experience it can be.

Please email Kymberlyn at [email protected] to let her know you'll be there.

New Beginnings Start With Adoption.

Michelangelo will be patiently waiting at our shelter for his forever home.

Meet Michelangelo! He is an approximately 2.5-year-old pit bull mix with a heart as big as his playful personality. This special boy has overcome incredible odds, including the amputation of one of his rear legs due to multiple fractures. But don't let that fool you - Michelangelo hasn't missed a beat! He's spunky, energetic, and full of life, always ready to brighten your day.

Michelangelo adores his toys, especially squeaky ones, and can entertain himself for hours with his favorites. While he's respectful and calm around other dogs, he's happiest doing his own thing. Cats, however, are not his cup of tea, so a feline-free home is a must.

He's a champ in his crate, fully potty trained, and ready to settle down after playtime. Michelangelo's resilience and joyful spirit make him the perfect companion for someone looking for a playful and loving dog who knows how to bounce back from life's challenges.

If you're ready to welcome this one-of-a-kind pup into your home, bring your family and canine companions to the shelter during our open hours to meet him. Please note that a meet and greet with other dogs in the home is required before adoption can be completed.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

New beginnings start with adoption.

Meet Fern, the perfect combination of cuddly and playful...
Despite her petite size, Fern's personality is larger than life. She is chatty and makes quite and effort to capture the attention of shelter visitors as they walk by her cage. She loves to explore her surroundings, chase after toys and watch the birds at the feeder. But don't let her energetic nature fool you. Fern is a lap cat through and through. She cherishes moments of tranquility, purring contentedly on a warm lap. Fern's charming duality of being both playful and affectionate makes her an ideal companion. Adopt Fern, and let her bring a unique blend of joy and serenity to your life.

Fern is a 2 year-old Domestic shorthair and weighs 7 lbs.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Happy Tail Update:

We adopted Kevin who is now named Castiel aka Cass on 11/13. We already had a dog named Sadie (age 2) who was lonely since her brother passed away in March. His name was Jäger and I had him for 12 years. When I read Kevin's bio I just knew in my heart he was the right one! It's only been 5 weeks and it's like he's always been a member of the family. Cass and Sadie play together and sleep on our bed with us every night! Sadie is a very patient sister and Cass is quite an observer of her behavior to know what to do. I just know Jäger sent him to us. He has been a holiday blessing! Here is a pic I was lucky enough to get before they started playing again!
Merry Christmas and thank you for all the good you do for these furbabies! ~ Dawn, Russell, Sadie and Cass (Cass is on the left and Sadie is on the right)

Meet Cowboy!

Cowboy is a sweet, shy boy with a heart full of love, ready to find his forever home. This gentle soul may take a little time to warm up, but once he does, he’ll be your most loyal cuddle buddy. Cowboy thrives on affection and will happily soak up all the love you can give.

He’s also a fan of canine companionship and gets along well with other dogs. However, a meet-and-greet is required to ensure the perfect match. Cowboy is looking for a patient and understanding family who will give him the time and space he needs to fully blossom.

If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this loving pup, Cowboy is waiting to meet you! Could you be his perfect match?

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Introducing Chuckie, a stunning and rare male with a beautiful, soft buff-colored coat that makes him truly one of a kind! He is estimated to be around 4 years old. Chuckie's story is one of resilience and hope—he was abandoned by his original owner, but thanks to a kind-hearted Good Samaritan, his journey has taken a turn for the better.

Now, Chuckie is ready for a fresh start. He’s a sweet, affectionate cat who loves human company and has a gentle, calm demeanor. Though he’s been through a lot, he is still full of love and he’s looking for a family where he can feel secure, loved and cherished.

Chuckie's ideal home would be one where he can feel confident and trust his people, relax, receive plenty of attention, and enjoy a peaceful environment. Whether he’s curling up on a couch or gazing out the window watching the birds and squirrels, Chuckie is sure to make someone's family complete.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal cat who’s ready to bring joy into your home, he is the one for you!

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm (closed New Year's Day). No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Ring In a Pet-Safe New Year with These Expert Safety Tips from ASPCA

Goodbye 2024, hello 2025! We’re wishing for only great things this year so to help ensure you’re starting off on the right foot, our experts at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) want to remind you of some things to watch out for — and a few tips — to keep your pet safe, happy and healthy going into 2025!

Mind the Alcohol and Other Substances
Popping champagne at midnight may be tradition, but alcohol ingestion in pets could lead to depression, unsteady walking, vomiting, and in severe cases, a major drop in blood pressure and body temperature. Be sure to keep any and all alcohol well out of paw’s reach.

Additionally, the APCC receives many calls about pets ingesting ma*****na. Ma*****na in edible forms, like brownies, can be hazardous for curious pet. Ma*****na ingestion can cause unsteady walking, sleepiness, sensitivity to touch and decreased heart rate and body temperature. In rare cases, seizures and death may be possible. So, make sure to also keep any ma*****na or ma*****na-related products away from pets.

Be Proactive
Always expect the unexpected! Be sure to keep an eye on the food as our four-legged friends could be in search of an off-limits treat. See the APCC’s full list of dangerous foods to know exactly what to watch out for and consider sticking to your pet’s normal food or treats if you’re looking to give them something special for the holiday.

If you are planning to have guests over, set up a quiet space your pet can escape to. Throw in some cozy blankets and they’ll be happy as a clam! Additionally, be mindful of your guests’ belongings as some may carry medication on them that could be toxic to curious pets.

If you plan to celebrate at someone else’s home, do a quick double-check before leaving for the evening. Make sure all exits are securely shut, food and medication are put away and do what you can to make your pet feel comfortable.

Frightening Fireworks
From fireworks to poppers to noisemakers, New Year’s Eve has its fair share of frightening, loud sounds. Always make sure your pet is safe, comfortable and has a quiet place to hide during the holiday. Try using a room without windows and lots of warm blankets to keep them feeling calm.

Be sure to follow these few tips and tricks for a happy, healthy and pet-safe New Year with your loved ones. From all of us here at the ASPCA — furry and human alike — happy New Year!

If you suspect your pet may have ingested a hazardous substance, please contact your veterinarian or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) at (888) 426-4435.
