You won't miss Karen when you walk into the room. Her piercing clover-green eyes and tipped ear tell a story of survival, strength and spirit. But her eyes aren't the only thing that will catch your attention because when this girl has something to say, she’s not shy about saying it!

She came into our care in mid-September, thanks to a local grassroots rescue group that asked us to give her a safe space to prepare for her forever home. Her story began in an abandoned building, where a nearby business owner reported hearing faint cries for nearly two weeks. A compassionate local animal advocate was able to get permission to enter and found Karen inside, desperately calling out for help.

At just 1.5 years old, Karen was starving, weighing only five pounds at the time of her rescue. Despite all she endured, she showed nothing but gratitude and sweetness during her recovery. After a few weeks in foster care, Karen gained weight, strength and trust. She’s blossomed into a loving, vocal and affectionate companion.

Karen is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for her forever home. She's not shy about telling you when she wants attention, food, or just a chat. And with a personality as vibrant as her eyes, she’ll bring life and love into any home.

Whether she’s chirping for breakfast or curling up next to you for a nap, Karen is ready to leave her past behind and start a new life where she won't be without human companionship and where she never has to worry about her next meal.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

National Pit Bull Awareness Month in October, is a time to highlight the positive qualities of pit bulls and challenge negative stereotypes.

October 17th will mark TWO YEARS since Petey came to ARF. He has spent the majority of his time in foster but he is waiting for that special day when he finds his furever home.

Meet Petey, a lovable mix of charm, strength, and playfulness! This handsome boy is all about adventure, whether it's a walk through the neighborhood or a breezy car ride with the wind in his fur. Petey's playful spirit lights up with tug-of-war games, window gazing, fetching his favorite Kong ball, or splashing around during bath time. He's a clever pup, already mastering "sit and excited to learn even more!

Petey's affectionate side shines as he curls up on your lap or politely asks for a play session during TV time. While he's still working on his manners around food, he's a well-mannered sleeper, resting peacefully in his cozy kitchen spot through the night. It is impossible not to smile and laugh with Petey’s adorable personality.

Recently, we discovered Petey's love for canine friends-he's thrilled to make new dog buddies! He truly loves other dogs, making him an excellent option for a furever home with other dogs! Please note a meet and greet is required if you have other dogs in the home.

Best of all, Petey is a natural swimmer and dock diver, with a true passion for the water. He'd be thrilled to join an active family that lets him enjoy regular swim time. If you're ready for a loyal, fun-loving companion who's eager to shower you with love, Petey is waiting to bring endless joy to your home!

Petey is eligible for up to three in-home training sessions after adoption! These sessions are led by someone familiar with the dog’s training, personality, and needs. They’re a great way to ease the transition, answer questions, and help everyone start off on the right paw.

To meet Petey, please text his consultant at 440-506-3055 (Kymber).

Say hello to Mike, a striking longhaired kitten with a silvery-white chest, ultra-soft fur and a personality as charming as his looks. Mike arrived at the shelter in mid-July alongside his siblings (Mark, Mickey, Mary, and Mandy) after being surrendered for adoption. The whole litter spent time in a loving foster home, where they were socialized, cuddled and raised with care.

Now neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, Mike is officially ready for a forever home. He gets along well with other feline-friendly cats, making him a great addition to a home with other playful kitties or he can also be a lovable solo act.

Here’s what his foster mom had to say:
“Mike is a total love bug who’s almost always the first in my lap, purring away. He’s confident, playful and loves to cuddle. He's truly the perfect package! The white spot on his chest makes him look like the distinguished gentleman he really is and his long hair is incredibly soft. I predict Mike is going to be a very handsome, big boy!”

🧼 Grooming Needs
With that gorgeous long coat, Mike will need an adopter who’s willing to brush him regularly to keep his fur tangle-free and looking its best. He’ll love the bonding time and you'll love how stunning he looks!

🐾 A Quick Note on Family
Mike does not need to be adopted with a sibling, but we want potential adopters to know that his siblings (Mark, Mickey, Mary, and Mandy) are also available for adoption. If you’ve ever considered adopting a pair, these siblings have a strong start together and could be a perfect match to grow up side by side.

Mike is sweet, social and ready to bring a little extra fluff and a whole lot of love into your life. Come meet this little gentleman and see why his foster calls him the total package!

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Peanut didn't meet his new family but he enjoyed greeting customers on Saturday at Petco Strongsville. He also tried picking out some toys for himself and his pals back at the shelter.

Peanut is a recent graduate of our GRC Training Program which means he's a smart boy and has mastered all basic commands!

This adorable 8 month-old terrier pup is full of energy, curiosity, and love. Like any young puppy, Peanut will need patience and consistent training as he continues working on his basic commands and house manners.

Peanut’s lively personality means he’ll bring plenty of excitement, laughter, and joy to his new home. Whether he’s zooming around the yard, playing with his favorite toys, or snuggling up for some affection, he’s sure to brighten every day. Terriers are known for their intelligence and affectionate nature, making them wonderful family companions.

Peanut would thrive best in a home without small dogs. If you're interested in Peanut, please contact his consultant to discuss his health waiver.

If you’re looking for a loyal and loving pup who will grow alongside you, Peanut might just be the perfect addition to your family!

Peanut is available by consultant only — if you’d like to meet him, please contact Kymber (Shelter Manager) at 440-506-3055 to set up a meeting. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

With your help, pets won't go hungry this winter. Please help us help them.

We're holding a food donation drive for Berea ARF's Pet Pantry through October 12th to help stock our shelves for the cold winter months.

The Pet Pantry Protect is a valuable resource for over 200 neighborhood families; we're proud to provide over 300 dogs and 600 cats with much-needed and nutritious food. But the need continues to grow.

We're most in need of:
Dry dog food

Meet Otis! 🐾

This sweet and affectionate adult terrier mix is looking for his perfect walking partner. He walks well on a leash with minimal pulling and is making great progress in learning to heel. With patience and more training, he'll master this command in no time. Otis is very observant of his surroundings and likes to slowly take in everything around him. While he may take a little time to warm up to new situations, with patience and reassurance, he adjusts well and slowly becomes more comfortable.

Otis already knows the "sit" command, especially when there’s a treat involved—he’s a smart boy who’s eager to please! He absolutely loves attention and being petted, making him a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys affectionate dogs. Whether you're heading out for a leisurely stroll or a brisk walk, Otis would love to be by your side as your loyal walking buddy.

Otis is eligible for up to three in-home training sessions after adoption! These sessions are led by someone familiar with the dog’s training, personality, and needs. They’re a great way to ease the transition, answer questions, and help everyone start off on the right paw.

The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A meet-and-greet is required for all shelter dogs if you already have a dog. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

For more information or to meet Otis, please text his consultant, Kymberlyn at 440-506-3055.
