SUNDAY PACK WALK WITH TRAINER KAREN HAAS

Sunday Pack Walks offer an opportunity to learn tips from a certified dog trainer. On these mile-long walks, Karen Haas will teach you how to read your dog's body language, provide tips for keeping you and your dogs safe, and how to find your dog's "comfort bubble," ensuring you and your dog get the most out of all your walks.

Sunday Pack Walks are open to the public with sign-up by 4pm the previous day. Please ensure your dog is leashed, bring p**p bags (no retractable leashes please).

Pearl is a beautiful 2 year-old tabby girl with soft markings and lovely light green eyes. She came to us just before Christmas Eve after being transferred from an overcrowded shelter, along with her sister, Willow. While the two do not need to be adopted together, we always like adopters to know when cats arrive with littermates just in case keeping siblings together in a forever home is something you’d like to consider. We do not know what landed them in a shelter in the first place.

Tabby cats like Pearl are often believed to be some of the most wonderful companions. Many people say tabbies are especially friendly, intelligent and affectionate, with outgoing personalities that make them easy to bond with. Some even believe tabbies bring good luck and have a special way of fitting right in with their families.

Before coming to us, Pearl and Willow spent time in a loving foster home. Their foster mom shared this with us:
“Willow and her sister Pearl are very sweet and social. Willow is a little more shy. Both love Friskies pâté. They came from a home with multiple cats and two dogs.”

Pearl’s social nature and experience living with other animals suggest she could be a great addition to a variety of homes. If you’re looking for a sweet tabby with a gentle heart and a loving spirit, Pearl may be the perfect match for you.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

“Ohio law requires owners of dogs to renew their dog license each year between December 1st and January 31st.”

Having a license for your dog isn’t only a law, but it’s also a lost dog's ticket home! When your dog has its license attached to its collar, its assigned license number is all that is necessary for your county office to identify the dog's owner. If you do not buy your dog’s license during this renewal period, Ohio law requires a late fee equal to the cost of the license.

The penalty can be avoided if you purchase the dog license immediately upon acquiring the dog. After the renewal period of December 1st through January 31st, a penalty will be assessed for all dogs licensed that are older than three months of age and have been owned for more than 30 days. Dog licenses can be purchased through the county office where you reside.

Meet Nash! 🐾

GRC Training Graduate * High-energy * Strong

Nash successfully completed 10 weeks of basic training at our GRC partner location and got along well with the other dogs attending the program at the same time.

Nash is an energetic and athletic 3 year-old Bull terrier-Basenji mix who’s always ready for an adventure. He’s a strong, spirited dog who will thrive with an active family that enjoys staying busy and spending time outdoors. Nash is smart and eager to please, and will benefit with someone who will continue with his training skills from GRC. His impressive athletic ability means he can easily clear a 5-foot chain link fence, so a secure yard or supervised outdoor playtime will be important. With the right guidance, Nash will make a fun, loyal, and devoted companion for someone who loves an active lifestyle.

You can view Nash's profile page at https://www.bereaanimalrescue.com/dog-adoptions/ &page=shelterluv_wrap_1618276946437%2Fembed%2Fanimal%2FARF-A-8987

The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A meet-and-greet is required for all shelter dogs if you already have a dog. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Meet Artemis, ARF's January Cat of the Month

Artemis is a gorgeous little, young tuxedo girl with a celestial name and a heart full of wonder. She arrived at our shelter alongside her brother, Arlo, after being transferred from an overcrowded facility. Arlo has already been adopted and now it’s Artemis’s time to shine!

Like the moon goddess she's named after—and the ambitious NASA mission reaching for the stars—Artemis is curious, independent and full of potential. She loves to pounce on toys, scale cat trees like a space explorer and curl up in the sun like she’s charging her solar panels. Her playful energy and endless curiosity are everything you'd expect from a young kitten just beginning her journey.

🐱 A Note About Her Health:
You may notice that Artemis has a health waiver in her file. She tested FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), which we know can sound concerning at first—but here’s what that really means:
* FIV is not contagious to people or dogs.
* It is typically spread between outdoor cats through deep bite wounds.
* Kittens can test positive due to their mothers. As she grows, there’s a chance that antiobodies from her mother may result in FIV negative status in the future.

Our adoption consultant will walk you through everything you need to know and answer any questions. The most important thing to know is this: FIV+ cats can live long, healthy, love-filled lives with regular vet care, a safe indoor home and lots of affection just like any other cat.

Artemis isn’t just a name—it’s a promise. A promise of adventure, beauty and a love that’s written in the stars.

***Spruce has been adopted***

Happy MEW Year! We're a few days late, but it's never too late to celebrate!

We all know our feline friends treat every day as if it were their special holiday. With all the praise and attention they receive, it’s hard to fathom how we could love them even more! However, there really is a day when cat lovers around the nation pay extra attention to their kitties. It’s Happy Mew Year for Cats Day on January 2nd. Not only does this day give us a reason to slip a little more catnip to our furry felines, it also gives cats in need the chance for a fresh start.

Let's see your kitties in the comments!
