Easter is approaching! Just a quick reminder that Lilies are very toxic to kitties. All parts of the plant are toxic and can cause kidney failure. Even grooming pollen off their fur or drinking the water can make them sick. If you think your cat could have ingested any part of the plant they should see a vet right away. Treatment is much more effective before they show symptoms than it is after they start acting sick.

Did you know some dogs break their teeth on chew toys? We frequently see this with nylon bones or deer antlers. A good general rule of thumb is that if you can't indent the chew with your fingernail it's too hard for your dog's teeth!

February is Dental Health Month! Gauss the cat was our first dental of the month today. He had some FORLs (feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions). This is a condition where the pet's body eats away at their teeth, eventually resorbing the entire tooth to bone. The top of the tooth eventually breaks off. This is a painful process, because as the tooth is resorbed the nerves inside the tooth are exposed. You can see in the picture the body tries to protect the area by growing gums over the tooth, but in the radiograph, a significant portion of the tooth is missing. Unfortunately the cause of this condition is unknown at this point. Cats won't tell you this is happening, so it's a great reason to get them in for their annual exams so we can check for these!

Congratulations Taylor!

It has been 5 years since Taylor first joined our family as a Certified Veterinary Assistant. Since then she has become the go-to person in the hospital whenever anyone has questions. She works hard to maintain our inventory so that your pets have the food and medications they need. When she is not busy with inventory or patients, she is training new staff members. Taylor is Fear Free Level III Certified and she takes her commitment to your pets emotional well-being seriously. As she completes the final courses for her Veterinary Technician degree, she looks forward to becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2024!

Thank you Taylor for all that you do for the hospital and our patients. We’d be lost without you!

To top off our gratitude, we added a little "fun" after our training this week. Nothing like some E collar Ping Pong Toss and a couple of crazy card games to loosen them up! Wearing an E collar seemed very natural to some... 🤔😀
