It's hard to leave your pets at home when you have errands to run, but being separated could cause your pet to become overly anxious. It's important to be aware of separation anxiety to help your pet overcome it.

Make sure to schedule an appointment with your VCA veterinarian to discuss how to handle your pet's separation anxiety.

Please help us spread the word! BARCS is out of dog space and are waiving adoption fees through April 21. https://www.facebook.com/BARCSbaltimore/posts/pfbid02kvzeEusuqodfU52E8aYijzsz1VtwF51tzuLYKLSh2QjCozMaKF46ArEqZ76Wudjfl

๐ŸšจOUT OF DOG SPACE๐Ÿšจ

BARCS is in a desperate situationโ€“we have more dogs in the shelter than we have kennel space to house them, and more will continue to enter our doors. Effective today, April 18, through Sunday, April 21, we are waiving adoption fees for ALL animals in the shelter in order to make room for new animals that need to seek refuge at our facility.

BARCS is the open-admission shelter for Baltimore City, we cannot turn new animals away, even if our cages are full. The number of dogs coming into our shelter has significantly increased. Dog intakes at BARCS are up 24% from last year and 71% in the last two years. We have hundreds of healthy, happy adoptable dogs that need homes, and they are at risk for euthanasia otherwise. YOU can help us not have to make any heartbreaking decisions by helping us spread the word about this mounting crisis.

ADOPT: Adoption fees are WAIVED for all animals from April 18-21. BARCS is located at 2490 Giles Rd., Baltimore, MD and we are open from 2-6 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends. Fees are waived for animals in foster and at adoption events this weekend as well. www.barcs.org/adopt-dogs/

FOSTER: We urgently need foster families for adult dogs. You do NOT need to have a specific type of home or family to foster. Any open cage means two lives preserved: the dog you took home to foster and the next one inevitably coming in tomorrow. Even a weekend-long commitment to foster can make a major difference. If you arenโ€™t sure about fostering, you can attend one of our Foster Open Houses that are held twice a week. www.barcs.org/foster/

DOGโ€™S DAY OUT: If you are unable to adopt or foster at this time but still want to help dogs in need, you can participate in Dogโ€™s Day Out. Our Dogโ€™s Day Out program is a great way to give our pups a break from the shelter environment and get them seen by potential adopters. You can take one of our pups to the park, go for a hike or simply relax in your home. You do not need to be an existing volunteer to participate. www.barcs.org/dogs-day-out/

Please consider coming by the shelter to adopt or go through the foster process onsite and temporarily house a pup in need.

Our hearts are with the pets and people of Maui.

A big ๐Ÿซถ to the Hawaii based VCA veterinarians currently in Maui working alongside our incredible partners at Maui Humane Society. Teams are busy making triage kits to support pets and pet-owning families across the island.

Throughout the month of August, 100% of donations made to VCA Charities within any VCA Hospital will support our Disaster Relief Grants including our efforts in Maui. And 100% of donation made at the six Oahu VCA Hospitals will exclusively support relief efforts in Maui.

Thank you to everyone currently supporting this important work!

Additional ways to Donate:

- Donate at any VCA Animal Hospital
- Donate to VCA Charities directly by visiting vcacharities.org/donations
- Donate via text, by texting โ€œGIVEโ€ to 213-325-1919

It is with heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of our beloved Dr. David Tayman. Dr. Tayman passed away on May 28, 2022 due to health complications.
Dr. Tayman received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1969 and opened Columbia Animal Hospital in 1974 in the Wilde Lake Village of Columbia. In the early to mid-1980โ€™s, he moved Columbia Animal Hospital to the Hickory Ridge Village of Columbia (our current location). He served as president of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association in 1986 and received several awards throughout his career.
Dr. Tayman followed a work philosophy of โ€˜treat every pet as if it were your own,โ€™ a phrase imparted to him by a favorite professor. He was a true believer in the human-animal bond and ensured that each doctor and staff member had access to veterinary education to better care for the pets in our community.
In addition to his veterinary practice, Dr. Tayman also served as a valued community leader, including memberships on Howard Countyโ€™s Board of Health, Hospital Foundation, and Chamber of Commerce. He was involved in developing the PetSafe Program and the Mutt Mitt public health program, a system of stations around Howard County for pet waste disposal.

Dr. Taymanโ€™s passing will be marked privately with family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter), 2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD. 410-396-4695, www.barcs.org.
