Please do not leave your pets in a hot car. Just a quick stop can result in injury and even death.

We are in a heat advisory. Please keep your pets safe and review the following tips:
* Pets can dehydrate quickly, so keep plenty of fresh, clean water available.
* Make sure outside animals have access to shade and do not over exercise them.
*Know the symptoms of overheating in pets: excessive panting, difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse.
*Animal with flat faces such as Pugs, French Bulldogs and Persian cats are more susceptible to heat stroke.
*Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle unattended, the temperature can become deadly within minutes.
*Do not leave your pet unattended around a pool.
*Dogs with shaved coats need to be protected from sunburn.
*Do not let your dog linger on hot asphalt. Their bodies can heat up quickly absorbing heat from the road and their paw pads can burn.

We have heard about a recent event in our area that may alarm some people, so we have come to address any concerns!
Right next door in Montgomery County, the animal shelter and adoption center announced a closure until further notice yesterday due to a single dog testing positive for canine flu and several others showing symptoms. (see their post here for all the facts; https://www.facebook.com/mcasac/posts/pfbid02ZRjG1KExHxd5H6CYBJduhuNGCBE1d485WbCMKUJfzQQFag4LvxMtojunWgyJ4iP3l )
While we know this can be extremely scary, especially since we do not see canine flu around here much (if ever!), we want to reassure our pet owners that with close attention to your pets and proper precautions, things like canine flu will remain small isolated cases like this in our area.
Be sure if you have social interactions with your pet like grooming, dog parks, daycare, boarding, or even just going out on the town often where other dogs are, discuss vaccinating your dog for canine influenza to decrease the risk.
Be sure to keep your pet away from obviously sick pets, and on the flip side, keep your pet home if they are obviously sick- with the exception of a trip to the vet if needed for care! (Be sure to follow any contagious protocol that may be in place for these cases as well.)
The simple of it all is take the precautions to stay alert and keep the canine flu at bay in our area! 🚫🐾🤧😷🐾🚫 (pretend those are dogs, since humans cannot get this flu! 🙃)
