Our very own Dr. Delabar is featured in The Humane Society magazine All Animals with the one and only Dr. Jane Goodall on the cover! She discusses the benefits of Fluoxetine to help reduce anxiety in cats. Many pets can benefit from behavior support to make sure their emotional needs are met and to enhance their lives. Medications are an important part of that. Learn more about how we can help your pets' emotional and behavioral health on our website petwellnessalliance.org/behaviorsupport

Today is Giving Tuesday and you can participate by supporting Pet Wellness Alliance!

Many families in Central Missouri struggle to provide necessary care for their pets and risk losing them to either relinquishment or illness. Our Pet Well Family Support Fund helps families with veterinary care during financial difficulties, ensuring pets receive exams, vaccines, diagnostics, and antibiotics to stay healthy and happy, allowing them to remain with their loving families. We are proud to be a part of a movement helping alleviate these barriers families face when accessing veterinary care so that all people can experience the joy and unconditional love of the bond with their pet.

Your support is crucial for us to continue offering compassionate care to people and pets in need. Join us in making a positive impact on families in our community! Every donation, regardless of size, contributes to a healthier and happier future for our furry companions.

We are thrilled to be working with the CoMoGives campaign again this year, which starts today and goes through December 31st.

Columbia community steps up to help care for a furry friend!

Our little friend Big Red was a community cat being cared for by a wonderful caretaker, but he recently showed up with a limp. We examined him, and luckily, the leg wasn't broken. Instead, we determined he had an infected bite wound, and we treated him with antibiotics and pain medication. Many people from our amazing community made donations to help pay for his care, and now Big Red is up for adoption!

We love a happy ending!

A walk with your dog is a wonderful opportunity to spend time together to grow your bond. But it is important to be present with your dog rather than focused on something else during a walk. Check out this great article, featuring several board certified veterinary behaviorists, discussing the dangers of "distracted dog walking".

If you are experiencing any challenges while walking your dog including pulling on the leash, reactivity or aggression towards other animals, people, or vehicles - you are not alone! Pet Well offers our harness exchange program to help families transition away from harmful tools such as prong collars, choke chains, and shock collars, to a more comfortable and effective harness! Our Veterinary Behavior service is equipped to help address these concerns, as well as other problem behaviors.

Reach out to us for guidance in developing loose leash walking skills or if you and your dog are in need of additional behavior support!

In today’s overscheduled world, this multitasking may feel extra productive. But animal behaviorists say it’s dangerous — and can frustrate dogs if their needs aren’t being met.

🚨ANIMAL WELFARE NEWS ALERT 🚨

Remote electronic shock collars have been banned in England, effective February 2024. We are so thrilled about this historic ruling for our friends across the pond! We hope the United States will join them in taking this great step forward for our animal companions.

Unfortunately, electronic shock collars have been advertised and promoted extensively over the years. They are still commonly used to address problem behaviors, despite a growing body of scientific research demonstrating the detrimental effects of these devices.

Shock collars pose serious risks to animal welfare and the human animal bond. There are many factors which lead to the development of problem behaviors including fear, anxiety, arousal, the animal not understanding what is being asked, and even a source of physical pain! Shock collars only exacerbate these underlying feelings, making the animal feel worse. In the long run, animals subjected to shock collars are likely to become more fearful and anxious, making problem behaviors worse and compromising emotional and physical health.

If you are using a shock collar or have thought about it, reach out to us! We are here to support your family through the transition to fear free and force free relationship-based training.

We feel so passionately about this issue we have developed our Pet Well Harness Exchange Program to help eliminate these devices from our community. If you have an aversive or punishment based training tool, including a shock collar of any kind (remote operated, electronic/invisible fence, bark collar, etc), a prong/pinch collar, or choke chain, we will exchange this for a brand-new harness at a discounted rate! We will make sure the harness is properly fitted for your dog, and offer a variety of services to help address the problem behaviors you and your dog are experiencing.

Dogs all over England are smiling today. As of Feb 1st 2024 remote electric (shock) collars will be banned in England. Thank you to everyone who campaigned for 10 years to get this done! The dogs thank you!
