Meet Little Bit! This adorable little lady is a 5-month-old Dachshund that presented to the emergency department here at SCVSEC in critical condition. Little Bit was feeling mischievous and got herself into some serious trouble when she got into human eye drops. Her mom recognized she needed help and jumped into action to get her to a doctor immediately.

Little Bit presented to us laterally recumbent (lying on side and unable to rise), minimally responsive, hypothermic (low temperature), bradycardic (low heart rate), and hypotensive (low blood pressure). Thanks to her mom’s diligent care, the quick action of our emergency team, and ASPCA poison control Little Bit is back in action and thriving. She’s now back to her puppy ways and enjoyed being snuggled all day while she was hospitalized.

Little Bit is a great example of the key role that ASPCA poison control helpline plays in making sure we get the best most up to date treatment plans for our fur babies who ingest or are exposed to toxic substances.

While we hope you never have to experience your pet being sick or in critical condition like Little Bit, we are here 24/7 to help in your pet's time of need!

Pictured is Little Bit hanging out in Danielle's (ER technician) sweater just prior to discharging home.
