South Carolina Association of Veterinarians

South Carolina Association of Veterinarians The South Carolina Association of Veterinarians (SCAV), established in 1911, is a non-profit association representing veterinarians.

One of the main objectives of the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians is to provide professional education to our members. To this end, SCAV schedules a variety of sessions at its small and large animal academies, the Southeast Veterinary Conference, and its annual conference. As a membership benefit, SCAV members receive complimentary registration to the annual small animal academy and gr

eat discounts to the other conferences. In addition, each event provides opportunities for industry partners to meet with veterinarians and share information about their products and services. The Southeast Veterinary Conference and the SCAV Annual Conference also provide attendees with several down-time programs. All events offer continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Being a responsible pet owner means more than just providing food and shelter—it’s about giving your furry friend a long, healthy, and happy life. February is the perfect time to reflect on our role in our pet's lives!
What is being a responsible pet owner?
🥣 Proper nutrition — Providing the right diet based on your pet’s age, health, and dietary needs.
🩺 Regular veterinary care — Scheduling regular check-ups with your vet to prevent illness and catch issues early - when they can be managed or even cured.
🏃‍♂️ Exercise & Mental Stimulation — Keeping your pet active and engaged through walks, playtime, and appropriate socialization. Mental enrichment is just as important as physical activity!
🎓 Training — Investing in training to ensure your pet has good behavior and can communicate effectively with you and others means your pet can be a more active member of your family.
🐾 Hygiene & Safety — Good hygiene practices are key, from regular grooming to keeping a clean environment. And don’t forget about microchipping—it’s a small step that can bring huge peace of mind during a stressful situation.

Happy National Responsible Pet Owner Month!

We are saddened to hear of Dr. Boosinger’s passing last week and thinking of our Clemson family as they mourn this tremendous loss.

We have some very sad news to share with our community. Clemson University Special Advisor to the Provost and Co-chair of the CVM Steering Committee, Dr. Tim Boosinger, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, after an extended illness.

An expert in veterinary pathology and an experienced educator, researcher and administrator, Boosinger worked with University stakeholders in many capacities to implement programs and initiatives that enhanced and advanced Clemson’s land-grant mission.

Prior to his service at Clemson University, he served as the Dean of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and Provost of the University. Most recently, he served as the Clemson University Special Assistant to the Provost, during which his expertise and dedication to veterinary education played an instrumental role in developing the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine. He also served Clemson as interim dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences in 2018 and later as interim dean of the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities from 2019 to 2020.

Our team is deeply saddened by this loss. Dr. Boosinger was a knowledgeable and kind member of our team, and he will be greatly missed.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, February 7, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Auburn, 143 East Thach Ave, Auburn, AL.

As anyone who lives there knows, upstate SC might get snow on Friday, they might get ice on Friday, they might get a combination of the two on Friday, or they might get nothing on Friday. Just in case, be sure to make plans for your pets! The difference of just a degree or two can vastly affect the amount of snow and ice that accumulates.
