We love a good success story! Everybody meet Lucy. She came to us for some urinary problems, and we discovered bladder stones on her X-rays that needed to be surgically removed. To our surprise, Lucy also had something else lurking in her abdomen...a tumor on her spleen! So Lucy's surgery turned into a double whammy - a splenectomy (spleen removal) as well as a cystotomy (bladder stone removal).

Her tumor was diagnosed as a histiocytic sarcoma, which doesn't usually occur how Lucy's case did. After consulting with an oncology specialist, we decided to pursue chemotherapy that could be done at the clinic. Chemotherapy in animals is not as scary as it sounds! Lucy did not go bald, nor did she have any serious side effects from her medication which was an oral dose on a schedule over a few weeks.

Lucy recently came in for her recheck to make sure there was no cancer detected now that her chemotherapy treatment is finished. We are so excited that Lucy is currently cancer free! We don't have a bell to ring, so my Mississippi State cowbell will just have to do!

Marion Pet Care will be closed for appointments this Friday and Saturday (February 23-24) for a staff continuing education conference at Mississippi State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Our lobby will have limited hours on Friday for filling medication and scheduling appointments with our receptionist. We will resume regular business hours on Monday, February 26. If your pet is older or has other medical issues, we can schedule an appointment for a comprehensive exam to meet your pets individual needs. Bella is missing! She has been spotted in the general area of Fortenberry Rd. near Mimosa Campground as well as the Shell Station on Hwy. 13 north. She is wearing a bandanna.
