These are adult dogs that we have concern about based on their length of stay, ​behavior or medical issues, or general lack of interest from the public. All adoption fees are waived- so there's no cost!

❤❤We can't wait to see all of our guests at Bark & Wine tomorrow night.
Even though the weather won't be great, we'll be inside enjoying a great time inside Rosewood Hall.
⭐Covered parking is available under the Homewood City Hall Building.
🍷🥃Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with live music from the Section One Jazz Trio, wine tastings with Southern Roots, chocolate tastings with Elizabeth Moore Chocolates, Bourbon tastings from Old Dominick Distillery, a kitten and puppy kissing booth and couples photos by Spark & Arrow Creative!
💌💌The event will continue with dinner by Yellow Bicycle Catering, a live auction, fun games, live entertainment from The Negotiators, dancing and more!

🐶🐶Our Weekend Warrior program gives shelter pups the chance to swap kennel life for a mini getaway, whether it’s just for a weekend or a whole week of fun.

⭐⭐Got plans? Bring a pup along! Whether you’re hiking, brunching, or just binge-watching your favorite shows, our dogs would LOVE to tag along for some quality time away from the shelter. Trust us, they’ll thank you with tail wags and endless snuggles.

Our 5th Annual Cup of Love event is presented by Best Friends of Shelby Humane. 🍪🍦To show love to the animals, all the dogs will get a home baked cookie with whipped cream and the cats will get a cup of Churu.

💖 It’s the season of love and the best way to show you love your pet is by getting them spayed + neutered!
❓Why spay or neuter your pet?
🐾 Prevents unwanted litters, reducing the number of homeless animals + overpopulation in the state.
🐾Promotes responsible pet ownership and reduces the burden on shelters.
🐾Lowers the risk of cancers and infections in pets
🐾 Pets are less likely to roam, mark, or act aggressively

“I’ve seen your posts daily intakes of 25+. I’m sadly at max capacity of things to take care of, but wanted to provide maybe a little dose of happy.

All of these babies came from y’all:
🐶 The white old man (formerly Starley adopted October 2017). Loves life on his orthopedic bed. He’s getting older, and has rough mornings but he is the sweetest old man. He’s amazing and patient with kids. If you scratch the spot above his tail he’s your new best friend.

🐈‍⬛ The grey little cat bosses around the whole house. He is the furry boss. He loves love, but only on his terms. (Formerly Paprika, also adopted October 2017)

🐈 The white and tabby baby just wants fed and love. He loves to lay on you, but he’s so heavy that it’s better if he stays beside you. Other than smothering you with his love, he wouldn’t hurt a soul. (Formerly Tiger, adopted October 2019)

🐕 Our last addition, the baby is the furry love of my life. He’s the best friend a girl could ask for. Ironically the baby is the largest of the dogs and at the ripe age of 1, I imagine he still has some growing to do. People always look at me funny when I tell them he’s the baby of the family. (Formerly Thing 1, adopted April 2024).

I want to thank you for completing our family with these babies. I could not imagine life without all of the chaos (and fur 🤦🏻‍♀️). Please know these babies are home forever until the rainbow bridge.”

🥰🥰 She may be a bit tentative in the shelter, but who wouldn’t be? This energetic, curious girl loves to explore and thrives in peaceful surroundings.

🦮🦮She’s already proving to be a great companion—walking well on a leash, quickly doing her business outside, and showing off her intelligence and treat motivation by sitting politely for snacks.

🦴🦴She even takes treats gently from your hand, showing her sweet and polite nature.

⭐️⭐️But what truly makes Bunny special? Her deep desire for affection—when the petting stops, she leans in for more, just like a cat nudging for love. She’s easy to leash up, a pleasure to walk, and at just 49 pounds and 3-years-old, she’s the perfect age to settle into a loving home.

💙💚We are thrilled to share an update on sweet Hope! She left the shelter today to head to a home with one of our rescue groups! We will miss her and wish her all the best!

These 12 doggies went to our transport partner AWA Chicago to find their forever homes!

Check out all of our sweet dogs available for adoption! Adults (over 6 months) are only $5. Please give these babies a home!

Our staff enjoyed a fun holiday party today, complete with yummy food, trash Santa and beanie hats for everyone!

We are so very grateful to Petco Love for a $35,000 grant we received last year. We’ve recently completed our project of adding 16 more play yards for our sweet pups! They love getting to spend more time outside playing each day!

🎥🎥Watch along as our volunteer coordinator, Shondra, gives a tutorial on how to make Treat Bombs. 🐾🐾You can volunteer and come to the shelter and make these or make them at home and drop them off! All you'll need is toilet paper OR paper towel rolls and small treats or pupperoni cut into pieces.
