Field day Friday:
This week's field day is from Dorlin, Maripasoula,French Guiana. This beautiful tinctorius was photographed in the wild. This morph may be known as "Maripasoula" or the generic term "Yellowback. This location is only around 10 miles southwest from Saul. It seems the closer you get to Saul, the more vibrant the yellow is on this broad-ranging form.

Believe it or not, this form of tinctorius may be one of the oldest. The first collection dates back to 1997 when the National Aquarium in Baltimore went to the habitat of Azureus to collect specimens. On the way back, just a few individuals of this form were collected as well. Later, an employee at the time, named Sean Stewart, would acquire some of the offspring and introduce them to the US hobby as "True Sipaliwini" because the exact location was known and it was truly from the Sipaliwini District.

Stay tuned for this Friday!! On Fridays, we are doing "Field day Friday" where I present to you photos of tinctorius as seen in the wild. They may even be unique forms not seen in captivity. 👀 Be sure to follow so you don't miss it!

Such a spectacular form of tinctorius. The variability is delightful and something all tinctorius aficionados should see. Any other Green Sip keepers out there?

Field day Friday:
This week's field day is a unique one. This was an animal I personally saw at the in what they call the "Conservatory". The Conservatory is an excellent exhibit for any Dendrobatid lover because it is not an aviary with birds, but actually an exhibit you can walk around on a path and see many different species of dart frogs hopping around. This is not a post in support of hybrids, it is purely to appreciate the frog and this exhibit. The coloration of this frog suggests it may be a mix of Cobalt and Azureus.

The Alanis is a morph that was named after the exporter's daughter. The collection site is the town of Apetina, Suriname near the Tapanahony River. So should we rather call it "Apetina" instead?

Field day Friday:
This week's field day is brought to you by Google Maps from the Parque Nacional Montanhas do Tumucumaque, the same place from where the other famously colorful, Brazilian tinc morph comes from. Clearly several other morphs occur in this national park. Curiously this specimen appears very similar to the Brazilian Yellow Head morph or Brazilian Cobalt. As a tinc aficionado, I love to spend time on Google Maps perusing the variously localities and seeing what regular people have photographed and seeing if I can get lucky to find interesting tinctorius specimens a layman may have shared. Personally this habitat just looks spectacular and a bucket list place to visit for me!

Field day Friday:
This week's field day is a historical post from one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Vier Gebroeders Mountains. At this location is four little pockets of rainforest surrounded by a vast, dry savannah - the Sipaliwini Savannah. This is the home of the most iconic, little blue frog originally classified as its own species Dendrobates azureus. These photos are the first photos ever taken of the species and habitat by Dr. Marinus S. Hoogmoed in 1968.

This is one of the first big "new" morphs that hit the scene during the beginnings of the dart frog hobby around 1999. It was named "Alanis" after the name of the exporter's daughter. Alanis seem to be frequently imported nowadays whenever tinctorius are exported, even though imports are becoming more and more infrequent. The continuous stream of Alanis is partly because it is from the same exporter that's been collecting Alanis even now all these years later.

The Robertus was one of the last "new" morphs we received in the hobby in around 2014 named after the original discoverer and exporter from Suriname named Bart Henzen. Nowadays, the locals have the same issues we do outside of Latin America in the Western World where young people these days would rather be looking at their phones than go into the woods to collect some frogs. Combine this with increasing regulations, ongoing side-effects of the pandemic, and the hype for more Columbian frogs, we have really stifled prospects of new imports. Hopefully this will one day change. Maybe when Brazil opens it's doors? 👀

Field day Friday:
This weeks field day is a historical post of the well-known tinctorius morph known as "Tumucumaque" or incorrectly as "Peacock". The first photo is the very first photo ever documented of the morph. It was discovered for the very first time during a biological survey of the Tumucumaque Mountains National Park between 2004 and 2006 thanks to a researcher named Enrico Bernard. This photo soon faded into the shuffle of paperwork until a follow-up expedition brought more attention to this morph in around 2012. That is when the second photo began circulating on the internet and when the hype surrounding this morph started. Specimens would eventually appear in Europe in 2014.

Happy new year everyone! I start the year with a classic tinctorius morph. I just love that contrast of the deep blue with the lime green. 😍 This morph is definitely a mainstay of the hobby!

This year is going to be bigger and better than ever before. Stay tuned for Fridays!! On Fridays, we do "Field day Friday" where I present to you photos of tinctorius as seen in the wild. They may even be unique forms not seen in captivity. 👀 Be sure to follow so you don't miss it!

Anyone notice how the fantastic Tumucumaque tinctorius morph shares the same color as the flag of Brazil? 🇧🇷 A fantastic coincidence! Perhaps Brazil should consider making this frog the national frog of Brazil.

Field day Friday:
This week's field day brings us to French Guiana. This male tinctorius was photographed in the wilds of Réserve naturelle nationale des Nouragues in French Guiana. He can be seen transporting a tadpole on his back. The Nouragues is the most studied population of all tinctorius!
