Field day Friday:
This week's field day is a historical post from one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Vier Gebroeders Mountains. At this location is four little pockets of rainforest surrounded by a vast, dry savannah - the Sipaliwini Savannah. This is the home of the most iconic, little blue frog originally classified as its own species Dendrobates azureus. These photos are the first photos ever taken of the species and habitat by Dr. Marinus S. Hoogmoed in 1968.

This is one of the first big "new" morphs that hit the scene during the beginnings of the dart frog hobby around 1999. It was named "Alanis" after the name of the exporter's daughter. Alanis seem to be frequently imported nowadays whenever tinctorius are exported, even though imports are becoming more and more infrequent. The continuous stream of Alanis is partly because it is from the same exporter that's been collecting Alanis even now all these years later.

The Robertus was one of the last "new" morphs we received in the hobby in around 2014 named after the original discoverer and exporter from Suriname named Bart Henzen. Nowadays, the locals have the same issues we do outside of Latin America in the Western World where young people these days would rather be looking at their phones than go into the woods to collect some frogs. Combine this with increasing regulations, ongoing side-effects of the pandemic, and the hype for more Columbian frogs, we have really stifled prospects of new imports. Hopefully this will one day change. Maybe when Brazil opens it's doors? πŸ‘€

Field day Friday:
This weeks field day is a historical post of the well-known tinctorius morph known as "Tumucumaque" or incorrectly as "Peacock". The first photo is the very first photo ever documented of the morph. It was discovered for the very first time during a biological survey of the Tumucumaque Mountains National Park between 2004 and 2006 thanks to a researcher named Enrico Bernard. This photo soon faded into the shuffle of paperwork until a follow-up expedition brought more attention to this morph in around 2012. That is when the second photo began circulating on the internet and when the hype surrounding this morph started. Specimens would eventually appear in Europe in 2014.

Happy new year everyone! I start the year with a classic tinctorius morph. I just love that contrast of the deep blue with the lime green. 😍 This morph is definitely a mainstay of the hobby!

This year is going to be bigger and better than ever before. Stay tuned for Fridays!! On Fridays, we do "Field day Friday" where I present to you photos of tinctorius as seen in the wild. They may even be unique forms not seen in captivity. πŸ‘€ Be sure to follow so you don't miss it!

Anyone notice how the fantastic Tumucumaque tinctorius morph shares the same color as the flag of Brazil? πŸ‡§πŸ‡· A fantastic coincidence! Perhaps Brazil should consider making this frog the national frog of Brazil.

Field day Friday:
This week's field day brings us to French Guiana. This male tinctorius was photographed in the wilds of RΓ©serve naturelle nationale des Nouragues in French Guiana. He can be seen transporting a tadpole on his back. The Nouragues is the most studied population of all tinctorius!

Field day Friday:
This week's field day is from Suriname, the mother country of a majority of our tinctorius in the hobby. This lovely tinctorius is one of the original morphs in the hobby known as "Cobalt" but different localities with some variations occur all over Suriname and even in the other countries within the tinctorius range. This photograph is brought to you with a a tinctorius as seen in the wild of Suriname!

With that crisp black tuxedo and beautiful white toe tips, I consider the Yellowback to be one of the most handsome of the tinc morphs! Any other Yellowback or Atachi Bakka keepers out there?

The original holy grail of the dart frog hobby. Azureus deserves all the praise for many enthusiasts being drawn to this amazing hobby. With many interesting details regarding its origins, is it possibly a man-made morph? Maybe that's a story for a future article... πŸ˜‰

Field day Friday:
This week's field day is from French Guiana. This specimen was photographed in the wild in Maripasoula, French Guiana near the border triangle of Suriname, French Guiana, and Brazil. Being in close proximity, it shares many similarities with the morph we call "Nikita" in captivity which also occurs near the border triangle but collected on the Suriname side. It appears that this morph has a large range!

Many keepers have the problem, that their Fire-bellied toads (Bombina orientalis) have yellow bellies. I used different compounds which worked, but it takes months to see results. Some weeks ago I received a pure Canthaxanthin powder made by Abel Wolff. This product is stunning and works after a few feedings.

Works also for Bombina bombina and Bombina maxima.

This is a morph that was kept in Europe in the early 2000s. This morph was being called "British Guyana" at the time. Since only blue morphs are known from British Guyana, and noticing the clear resemblance to our Koetari River (UTC line) kept in the USA, this may be the only morph from British Guyana kept in captivity!
