Well, this stay will be with me for a long time. I was supposed to spend the last 10.5 days with two pups, Keeva and Odie, that live separately, but are owned by sisters who were traveling together. The dogs sporadically spend time together when one sister is traveling, and the other watches her pup, or vice versa. They get along well, so of course I can watch both of them at one house.

When I arrived a week ago Friday, Odie seemed unwell; he couldn’t get up, wouldn’t stand more than a few seconds on his own after assistance, and was doing some slow, labored breathing. He wasn’t interested in food, treats, or water. After visits to both his regular vet and to OSU, the decision was made to help Odie cross the rainbow bridge to end his suffering. This all happened while his family was on their flight to Hawaii, too, making the decision and entire situation so much more difficult. Odie’s family was able to receive updates via text during their flight, so the decision was theirs to make, albeit incredibly tough since they could not be there with their sweet boy. Please send Odie’s family your thoughts and strength as their return to an empty home will be difficult. 🖤🌈💔🐾

Following that sad first day, Keeva and I did a lot of snuggling, some crying, and quite a bit of moping around as we both worked to process Odie being gone. We did manage to take some walks, even with the dreadful heat, but we spent much of our time inside together getting scratches and some extra treats. 🤍
