Today marks the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. As the sun begins its slow return, we’re reminded that even in the quiet of winter, life is preparing for growth. 🌱

At Fresh Roots 614, we see this season as a time to rest, reflect, and plan. Just like the seeds we’ll plant in the spring, our dreams and goals need time to take root. Whether you’re mapping out your garden, journaling your intentions, or cozying up with a good book on growing, this is your moment to pause and prepare.

🌞 Here’s how you can embrace the solstice with us:
• Reflect on what you want to grow—on the farm, in your garden, or in your life.
• Start planning for your spring garden (it’s never too early!).
• Enjoy the beauty of the season, knowing brighter days are ahead.

Let’s honor the cycles of nature and celebrate the promise of new beginnings. What are you planting in your life for the coming year? Share with us below! 💬

What a day! Yesterday was all about community, connection, and empowerment. I started off by dropping off a special treat to the WhyHunger Conference, a movement that’s so close to my heart in its mission to end hunger and support food justice. Next up, I had the pleasure of joining the Green Teen Alliance Conference for an insightful panel discussion, moderated by the amazing Julialynne Walker. I sat alongside Dr. Jared Grant, Nicole Jackson, Trevor Horn, and Jo Love, and we dove into the many careers that anyone can hold in agriculture. From education to advocacy to farming, we shared our stories and our hopes for the future of agriculture—especially in how we can engage young people in this essential work.To finish off this whirlwind day, I was honored to host an activation at the Taste of Self Care event by The DIVA Movement™-Empowering Women Entrepreneurs. There, we focused on the importance of practicing self care and its connection to growing anything. Feeling grateful for a day full of meaningful conversations and inspiring people. Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing more about each of these amazing events soon!

How it started vs. how it’s going

This weekend, we finally put the jungle to rest! After months of letting these spring and summer crops do their thing, it was time to clear it all out and make space for the cool-weather favorites. It’s always a little bittersweet saying goodbye to all that lush growth, but trust me, I’m excited for what’s next. We’ve got everything prepped for those fall and winter crops—think hearty greens and root veggies that can handle the cold.

Stay tuned because the next season is about to be just as full of life, even in the chill!

That’s community. •Ghost Pepper Fact 🔥In 2007, Guinness World Records certified that the ghost pepper was the world’s hottest chili pepper, 170 times hotter than Tabasco sauce. The ghost chili is rated at more than one million Scoville Heat Units (SHUs) and far surpasses the amount of a cayenne pepper. And since has been surpassed by the Trinidad Scorpion Pepper, Carolina Reaper and Pepper X! •Would you dare to try a dish made with ghost peppers? 🌶️🔥•
