It’s Ozzy one of several new arrivals over the last week and already settling in very nicely. Ozzy is a Serval a medium sized cat from Africa. Maxing out at 40lbs Servals have the longest legs of any cat relative to their body size. They can jump close to 7’ and sn**ch birds right out of the air, they also feed on rodents, snakes, even frogs and basically anything else they can catch and want to chomp on. Our wish now is to find him a compatible mate and shoot for some offspring.
The zoo just keeps on growing and the zookeepers along with visitors couldn’t be happier about that, animal lovers are the best!
Open all weekend Fri-Sunday 10-5 come on out and meet the critters the weather will be superb🥳

An African Slender Snout Crocodile, oblivious to the cold temps this morning, is enjoying the balmy 80° in the tropical building. This exhibit houses dozens of reptiles, birds, and tropical plants such as Heliconia, Plumeria, Banana, Hibiscus, Areca, & Ponytail Palm trees. I think I'll just hang out in here all day today.

The Galah is adapted to a wide variety of modified and unmodified habitats and is one of Australia's most abundant and widespread bird species and is endemic to mainland Australia. It was introduced to Tasmania in the mid-19th century, where it is now widespread and much more recently to New Zealand.

Ostrich kids grow up so fast averaging a foot per month until they’re 7 months old🤯
Some fun facts: the only two toed bird on Earth, largest bird on Earth, can outrun a lion and a leopard, males hatch & raise the chicks, omnivores and can weigh over 350lbs.
They’ll also sn**ch your cell phone, take off your hat and remove your sunglasses without your permission.
We love them anyways🥰

Our super awesome Capybara Lucy had kids for the second time this year and they’re all girls🤯😍
Capybara are the largest rodents on Earth and in the wild to keep their babies safe they have to be vigilant always on the lookout for predators such as anaconda, caiman and jaguars. It’s a tough life but somehow they persevere.
To learn more and meet them in person we’ll be open Fri-Sun 10-5, over 100 exhibits now open🥳

If you’ve been to the Columbus Zoo just west of Houston it doesn’t take long to see we’re crazy about crocs. Currently we keep over half of the worlds species which currently stands at 26 including Vinny our young American Crocodile who is spending the day poolside just enjoying this amazing weather.
The habitat of the American crocodile consists largely of coastal areas. It is also found in river systems, but tends to prefer salinity, resulting in the species congregating in brackish lakes, mangrove swamps, lagoons, cays, and small islands. Other crocodiles also have tolerance to saltwater due to salt glands underneath the tongue, but the American crocodile is the only species other than the saltwater crocodile to commonly live and thrive in saltwater. They can be found on beaches and small island formations without any freshwater source, such as many cays and islets across the Caribbean. They are also found in hypersaline lakes; one of the largest known populations inhabits Lago Enriquillo in the Dominican Republic.
The American crocodile is one of the largest crocodile species. Males can reach lengths of more than 6.1 m (20 ft 0 in), weighing over 1,000 kilograms (2,200 lb).On average, mature males are more in the range of 2.9 to 4.1 m (9 ft 6 in to 13 ft 5 in) in length weighing up to about 400 kg (880 lb).
So far we’ve had 3 species reproduce here at the park and next Summer we’re shooting for our 4th the African Slender Snout Crocodile, one of our most favorite species🥰
The weather is perfect for croc viewing especially on the cooler mornings when they’re out basking. Come on by and see them up close they’ll be waiting for you. Also check out our website for field trip and birthday party info we love to do big group tours.
Thanks for supporting your local zoo and businesses🙏🏻❤️
