When Chirpy is inside, she's a couch potato and loves to cuddle. When she's outside she enjoys walking, running, and playing fetch. 🐾

Chirpy walks incredibly on a leash, she is crate-trained and housebroken, and she is good with other dogs.

Foster Superhero needed for Smurf – Our HEART dog! ❤

Recently diagnosed with a heart defect, the shelter is no place for a guy like Smurf.

His Cardiology team at MedVet say that he is a “Great Patient”, and we are hopeful that this new medication will allow Smurf to live a long, happy and heathy life!

At 2-years-old, Smurf is GREAT with other dogs, seems very housebroken and has no idea that his heart is built any different.

His next cardio check-up is in a few weeks, and while we’ll have more details about his care plan at that time, we would love to place Smurf in a foster (or foster to adopt) home as soon as possible.

At this time, Smurf can set his own limits, enjoying most regular activities without restriction, while avoiding exhaustion!

While under the care of the shelter, all supplies, including medical care, will be fully supported at no cost to the foster or foster-to-adopt family.

Meet Barkley. 🌊❤️ Barkley is 1-year-old, spry and cuddly, and he recently left the shelter for a day to embark on a DogVenture.

"He LOVES the water." Shares Barkley's DogVenture host. "He is very sweet and enjoys pets. He would benefit from an active family."

Barkley is housebroken, a lover of car rides, and everyone who meets him says the same thing about him: he's going to make one lucky family incredibly happy. ☀️

A purebred.... Mermaid! The dog days of summer are officially here, and 6-month-old Pasha has been a frequent visitor of the kiddie pool.

While we still have a lot to learn about this girl, we can confidently say that she loves other dogs and splish-splashing around in the water!

Recently coming into our care, Pasha is available to meet with interested adopters today and can head home with her new family early next week!

Pierogi was adopted and found his lifelong mission: loving his new human sister and family. ❤

This handsome boy is ecstatic to go on walks with his new fam, give kisses to his human sister, and be there for them day in and day out with a smile on his face (and a chew toy in his mouth).

Pierogi's new family is just as happy to have found their newest addition. "He's a happy boy in his permanent home." They share.

Adoptable Noble has love FUR all! 🌈💛

This guy is the whole package - brains, beauty and a silly side to brighten your days. Not to mention, he’s pretty easy on the eyes.

At 1 year old, he already knows “sit and down,” rides great in the car and is seeking a home with an endless supply of toys to play with.

That’s right. Noble LOVES toys more than nearly anything!

After a recent hike at Highbanks park with our volunteer, we learned that Noble is also GREAT in the car and is quite polite when meeting new people and dogs.

“He was excited to get into the car and after the walk was very calm.”

“He was friendly with other dogs and did not get distracted when passing other people. At the pet store, he was more interested in the toys than bones and treats!”

Gonzo deserves ALL the treats! 🍓🥬

Our dogs love treat time and we love to see them smile. In this year's garden, we made sure to include a few of their favorites, green beans and strawberries!

Our sensory garden is one of our favorite spaces here at the Adoption Center and is a natural haven, providing calming benefits, healthy snacks and endless enrichment for our dogs.

Being cute is real tough work – Just ask Kitty! 😎

5-year-old Kitty is one of the sweetest and calmest girls around! After a long week, Kitty was in need of some self care and nature therapy, so off she went for a hike with our volunteer!

“She’s an absolute dream on a leash, but really loves nothing more than to cuddle up with you.” Shares our volunteer.

“She did amazing!”

During their hike, Kitty showed off her very best manners, interacted great with the other pups, and happily enjoyed a spoonful of peanut butter as a post hike treat.

She’s also a great passenger in the car, making her the perfect travel buddy for those who love a good adventure or those who enjoy the extra company for the ride!

Kitty is a gentle, friendly, and laid-back gal looking for a loving home. 💕

Atlas is here to cure your case of the Monday blues! ✨

This lovable lug is 1-year old, and when he smiles, his whole face lights up with happiness. 🥰

Atlas's recent foster family shares that. "Atlas is a great cuddler, he's friendly and playful, he's housebroken, he loves car rides, and he'd do best in a home with another large dog or an active family to play with."

He truly blossoms around other dogs and the more we get to know Atlas, the more we fall in love with him.

Columbus! If it's too hot for you, it's WAY too hot for them. 🥵

Extreme temperatures are expected in our area this week and while humans may enjoy some fun in the sun, it's important for us to keep our animals safe in the heat.

- Keep your pets indoors as much as possible.
- Provide fresh, cool water and plenty of shade at all times.
- Limit exercising on hot days
- Never leave a pet in a parked car (Not even for a minute!)

Watch for signs of heat stroke: excessive panting, vomiting, drooling, and dizziness. Heat stroke is life-threatening and requires immediate vet care

If you witness an animal in distress please seek immediate help, and contact Columbus Humane at #614-777-7387.

**If you witness an animal that has been left in a hot car, please call the police and then go to the closest business and ask to have the owner of the vehicle paged to return to their car.

Shelter alum update! ✨ Since being adopted from the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center, Hoss (now Jaxson Jay) has been living his best life. 💕

In addition to his supremely loving humans, Jaxson cherishes every second spent with his new dog siblings.

Back in April, we posted a picture of Jaxson waving "hey" with his paw in the air, and now, this precious boy is looking forward to years to come of loving on his new family.

Currently living the good life in his foster home, Roberto has been the best “Big Brother.”

Sutton is as cute as a button. 🐾 Her Foster family has enjoyed having her, knowing that Sutton is going to make one lucky family very happy. ✨

4-year-old Sutton is a perfect mix of calm and playful. She loves going for zoomies in the yard, and afterwards, chilling near her humans.

Sutton is crate-trained and housebroken, is a good walker on a leash, and she loves to be close to those she loves. She's very affectionate and sweet.

Timber is the CUTEST lil' lumberjack you'll ever meet. 🪓

He is extremely affectionate, so much so that he will rub into your leg like a cat while leaning into you for pets and affection.

Timber has had great experiences with dogs. He would do best with a gentler playmate, who respects his boundaries.

He's gotten along fantastically with his foster sibling, enjoying both playing and snoozing equally! 😴
