This little guy is only 100 yards away from the shop. Keeping cover long is important to help hide out from predators. Unnecessary mowing does more harm than good. Keep your cover long and the little critters will benefit.

Very cool getting to see deer out the house windows. Even small pockets of habitat can attract and hold deer.

Happy Earth day 2024. Here is a Burr Oak tree that is only two years old. Don’t be afraid to plant “slow” growing trees. Once this oak is fully grown it will be one of the biggest trees around. Even though we won’t get to see it at its fullest the next generation will. Get out a plant a tree, shrub, or a flower this week.

Here’s a couple different bushes that are providing food and shelter for wildlife that I planted last year. A bird has decided this plum bush its home and built a nest in it. Plant diversity provides many types of animals and pollinators an opportunity to thrive. Whether it’s 1/4 of and acre or 10,000 acres. Every little bit helps.

Habitat! Year round habitat will hold and grow a pheasant or deer population. When we first started this project we had no pheasant population at our place. 3 years later this is what it is like. The crazy thing is it’s less than 5 total acres in the CRP. If your are interested in something like this reach out to me and I can help you get started.

Take your best shot! Guess how many inches of Boone & Crocket snow the shop will get tonight and into tomorrow. I’ll update every few hours. If we get what they say we might not be able to see the antlers come morning. Also, these are not customer antlers. They are a set from a garage sale years ago.

Still a few more hours of snow in the forecast. Time to break out the sleds. No shop work today!

Here’s a couple different stages that a shoulder mount goes through. First is form prep, then prepping the hide and test fitting, then comes glue/clay, and finally mounting/sewing. After the last stage(picture) a mount will be touched up daily until it is completely dry and ready for finish work. Any questions you have please comment on the post and I’ll answer them. Thanks

When I give updates on mounts I talk about finish work being the last step. Here are a few shots of different stages an eye goes through from the drying, apoxie work, painting, cleaning, and glossing. I using a a mixture of flesh, grey, brown, green, and black on my deer eyes. Hopefully this helps give you a little glimpse of what work all goes into your mounts.

Unlike many shops whose goal is to take in the most amount of work possible, my goal is to provide high quality work at a reasonable turn around time frame. I set a limit every year on the amount of work I take to ensure a high quality trophy that lasts a lifetime. There’s only a handful of spots left. If you have a trophy sitting in your freezer don’t wait to drop it off.

3,250 miles by car or 2,581 miles by airplane is the farthest distance between 2 projects that have come out of the shop. All of the green highlighted states are where projects from my shop have ended up. It’s pretty cool to see how far my work has traveled. If you have a piece from me and your state isn’t highlighted make sure to comment.

Over the river and through the woods they go to their new homes. A handful of mounts left today on this truck. A great company with great employees. On the truck along with the deer I sent was a lifesize crocodile, mountain goat, black tail deer, antelope, and many others. I was their second stop on this trip out of fifty.
