Beautiful memories of Spring 2022

Klaus, the German Shepherd in many pix, passed away that spring.

Klaus was huge yet so gentle & tolerant of teeny dogs. He was muzzled sometimes to keep him from eating grass, not bc he hurt the dogs.

Klaus, a working dog & daily daycare client at ASL, had so many jobs here at ASL. His favorite was supervising & directing play in the ASL playground.

We all miss and love you Klaus … every single day

Columbus Ohio- Do any of our rescue friends have room for LARGE dogs right now? We were contacted by a lady in her late 80's who is trying to find care for the pets of a friend who passed away. There is a GSD, a Great Pyr and 5 of their puppies, pups are 5 1/2 months old (Dogs are said to be super friendly). There are also 15 cats in need of rescue. If any rescuers are able to assist with any of these animals, please message me. This poor lady is completely overwhelmed and physically struggling to try and provide care

Archie is hoping that someone will play cupid and hook him up with a family that will fall in love with him!

When Archie came into our rescue, he was in a state of crisis - painfully bleeding and pawing at his mouth. During his preliminary vetting, Archie was diagnosed with a cancerous oral mass and comfort care was recommended. However, after he continued to show improvement in his foster home despite this prognosis, we got a second opinion. From that opinion, we learned that Archie did not have cancer, but an infected oral abscess (likely from an embedded foreign object) that was causing his symptoms and presented similarly to a malignant growth. In fact, the antibiotics that were prescribed as a part of his comfort care regimen cleared up the abscess in its entirety and, aside from some nerve damage causing his tongue to adorably hang out the side of his mouth, Archie now has a clean bill of health, is fully up to date on vaccinations and neutered!

We are so happy that Archie is adoptable because he is a fantastic dog that will do wonderful in most homes! He is fully housebroken and VERY well behaved in the house. He does whine and bark when put in a crate but is trustworthy and quiet if left out. Archie is a gentle, happy dog that gets along with other dogs and kids.

Archie is estimated to be around 10 years old and a German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound mix. He would rather be playing with his toys, relaxing outside, or going for a walk than hanging out on the couch. He has no problem getting in a car and going for an adventure! Archie is the definition of "young at heart"!

Archie was initially picked up and brought to rescue when he wandered into a Dollar General, maybe he was looking for you??

If you are searching for a petite dog who checks all the boxes, look no further! Your Buddy is here!

Buddy is a 5 year old retriever mix - only 30 pounds and completely potty trained. He would be perfect for an apartment or senior adopter. Buddy is a calm, sweet little guy - does not need to be crated during the day and is very content hanging out with a chew toy. When he gets tired at night, he heads to his dog bed in his foster's room and puts himself to bed.

Buddy does have severe skin allergies which are managed with a prescription diet and medication. Buddy is hypothyroid intakes daily medication for this as well, which is inexpensive.

Welcome John Snow (Harry) back to STS!

Harry's world recently turned upside down when his owner, who loved him very much, faced tough times and could no longer care for him. At just 2 years old and about 30 lbs (a few extra due to his love of cheese!), Harry is searching for a forever home where he can feel safe, cherished, and loved.

Harry initially may seem a bit cautious with new faces, but give him a moment to warm up, and you’ll find the sweetest soul who simply wants to be close to you—preferably sprawled across your lap! His favorite pastime is curling up on his foster’s lap while she works, soaking up all the love and attention he can get.

Harry is a dream companion—completely potty trained, a pro at sleeping through the night in his crate, and always up for a cuddle. But don’t let his snuggle game fool you; he absolutely lives for his walks! Say the word “walk,” and Harry will do a little happy dance, complete with adorable grumbles of excitement as he urges you to hurry up and grab those shoes.

This resilient little guy may have faced some big changes, but his heart remains full of hope. Harry knows his perfect forever home is out there!
