Mr. Luca wiggled his way into our hearts during his visit with us last week to have his a**l glands expressed 🥰
Although stinky, a**l glands play a vital role in our pet's health and can lead to health complications if left untreated. A**l glands are located on the left and right of the inner a**s and release a smelly fluid that helps lubricate the a**l ca**l to ease the process of passing stool. In some individuals, this process doesn't go as planned, and the fluid buildup in these glands requires the expression of the fluid and pressure to prevent an abscess.
Signs that your pet's a**l glands may need expressing include:
- Scooting their butt across the floor
- Excessively licking their a**s
- A foul, fishy smell coming from their rear end
