He came in for his Puppy Wellness checkup and got an A+ from our Doctor on his exam. Fun Fact Friday! 🐾

Did you know? Almost 99.9% of calico cats are female! This is due to the genetics that go into coat coloring. Two "X" chromosomes are needed to achieve the tri-colored coat pattern. Male cats that are calico typically have a genetic disorder called Klinefelter Syndrome, which gives them an XXY chromosomal makeup. This is a non-life-threatening disease that results in more feminine features and infertility.

Little miss Tally was so brave during her visit with us 🥰

September is Happy Healthy Cat Month, a reminder to bring your cats in for yearly wellness exams to ensure they live long and plentiful lives. Cats can be very secretive when it comes to illness so it's important to monitor their behavior around the house and bring any concerns up to your vet.

Today is World Rabies Day (WRD) - a day to raise awareness about the world's deadliest infectious disease and help the world come together to fight the disease.

Rabies is a preventable viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system of mammals, ultimately causing disease in the brain and death.

It's essential that we do our part and annually vaccinate our pets against rabies to prevent the spread of this disease. All dogs and cats in Franklin County are required to be vaccinated against rabies and are required to wear their rabies tag. Dogs are required to have an updated rabies vaccine in order to obtain a Franklin County Dog License - failure to register your dog could result in fines and court costs up to $150.

Call us at (614) 272-0162 to schedule your pet's rabies vaccinations today!

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 💙

As animals are unable to speak our language to voice any concerns or ailments, it is up to us (both as pet pawrents and veterinary clinics) to understand our pet's normal behaviors and know when something is off. Due to natural instincts, our furry friends do their best to hide any illness until they cannot, as showing any weakness in the wild makes them a target to larger predators. It's important to monitor your pet for any changes and reach out to your vet with any concerns to ensure we catch things before they progress.

Familiarize yourself with the list of signs of pain the Animal Medical Center provides so you know what to look for. Give us a call if your pet starts showing any signs of pain or if you have any concerns.

Meet Ruby, a Persian kitten who was brought in by her concerned pawrent due to an enlarged/distended abdomen. After examination with one of our doctors and an abdominal ultrasound (which found her abdomen to be fluid-filled), she was diagnosed with FIP. FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) is a rare disease caused by a mutated form of Feline Coronavirus. Most commonly seen in kittens, FIP is a gastrointestinal virus that has been historically fatal as there was no treatment. Thankfully, due to advances in medicine and the veterinary field, a new FIP medication was recently released, and little Miss Ruby was able to start the medication as soon as possible. After a couple months on the medication, we are happy to announce that Ruby has conquered FIP and returned to get her kitten vaccines!! 🤍🐾
