Come join us TOMORROW between 11-4pm for our Christmas Open House!

We will have a gift basket drawing, tasty treats for you & 🐾 , a Christmas photo opportunity with (or without) your pets (friendly on leashes only please), and overall cheery conversation! There will be a laser demonstration at 11:30am and 2pm to learn more about the benefits and uses for laser therapy, as well as happy to answer any questions about our clinic/services.

We are partnering with hillcountrypottery (2 gates down from our clinic) who will be having live music, a food truck, and pottery demonstrations at 12:30pm and 3:30pm! We together will also have a gift basket drawing for a chance to win a charcuterie set + doggie/kitty supplements and dose of Bravecto (90 day flea/tick preventative - dog or cat).

Meet Sweet Stella!

Stella came in last month because she was vomiting on and off, very lethargic, not eating well, and generally not acting her normal happy self. After some bloodwork and an ultrasound we found that Stella’s body was not making enough steroids (which are necessary for..life) - a condition called Addison’s Disease. Because Stella’s humans were attentive to her not feeling well, we were able to quickly identify what was wrong and get her on IV fluids to support her hydration & electrolytes, as well as medications to supply her body with the steroids it wasn’t making on its own. She will be on these medications life long, but hey just a few extra treats with her pill everyday and with her monthly injection is fine by her! Now Stella is running around and back to her happy self again, and she will go on to live a long fun filled life ♥️ 🐾

☀️ With this Texas heat full force please take extra care of our heat INtolerant breeds to prevent overheating! Brachycephalic (“squished face”) breeds are physically unable to regulate their temperature as well as our long nosed breeds. Long haired and dark colored dogs are also at higher risk of heat exhaustion. Lillie here is a picture perfect example of who should be enjoying her days in the air conditioning! (Fortunately she was just here for a routine teeth cleaning today and now has her pearly whites back 😬🦷)

So what does heat exhaustion look like??
Symptoms of overheating in dogs are:
- excessive panting that will eventually lead to respiratory distress / struggling to breathe
- Dry & pale (or blue) gums
- elevated heart rate (& of course temperature)
- weakness / stumbling / inability to walk
- bloody diarrhea & vomiting

What do you do??
If you feel your dog is experiencing a heat stroke please bring them into a cool area immediately and pour cool water (NOT ice cold) over their body. You can also pour rubbing alcohol on their foot pads to help further cool them, THEN load up to go to the vet as they may need more intensive care to lower their temperature!

Be careful out there ☀️

It is with heavy hearts that we share that we lost our fierce little Tinker Bell (“Chiquita”) this week. She was the Alldredge Vet resident chihuahua who was the best ranch dog, consistent clinic doorbell, fierce UPS-man hater, and taco & deer leg lover. She was 15+ years old, going on her 20th life after many close encounters with horse hooves, trailer tires, and making journeys not meant for 7lb creatures. She lived a life full of adventure and love, and made clinic life fun for the last 13 years 💔

Rest in peace sweet girl.
Try not to bite anyone in Heaven

Walkin in style 😎

This is Brigid - a 5week old Nigerian Dwarf goat who broke her tibia. This little lady will be rocking a splint for the next 6-8 weeks until her bone heals and she can frolick again as all kids should!

We never want to think about our pets having cancer, but it’s an unfortunate reality that many breeds are predisposed to it and often a consideration for our beloved senior citizen pets. Routine screening bloodwork and imaging (such as an ultrasound and/or X-Rays) can be helpful tools to identify cancer (& other disease processes) early on to help us formulate a treatment plan earlier rather than later. Our goal is to keep your pets chasing the ball, snuggling on the couch, and overall thriving with you as long as possible!

Liver cancer in dogs can seriously impact your dog's lifespan. Learn more about the types, signs, diagnosis, and treatment of this disease.
