Did you know that the pattern called merle can cause significant health problems including deafness, blindness, and higher rates of skin cancer if a merle dog is bred to another merle (double merle)?

Merle gene is found in only the following breeds:
Alpha Blue Blood Bulldogs
American Leopard Hound
Australian Shepherd
Beauceron
Bergamasco Sheepdog
Border Collie Cardigan Welsh Corgi
Catahoula Leopard Dog
Chihuahua
Cocker Spaniel

So, if you see a dog with a merle color outside this list its parents were likely another breed with merle pattern. French Bull dogs with merle coats were likely bred with Chihuahuas to achieve that color as Frenchies don't carry the merle gene.
