Last week, Kelly Vineyard, M.S., Ph.D. had the honor to join A Home For Every Horse in presenting the 2024 Healing Hands Award to Megan Ahearne, DVM, MS.

The Healing Hands Award recognizes the tireless efforts of veterinarians who provide exceptional care in rescue and rehabilitation settings, offering health, hope, and a second chance to horses in need. Ahearne has been dedicated to helping rescue horses since her student days and owns a horse, Loki, who was adopted.

Megan, thank you for all you do to support our horse community!

“The moment I first saw him, I fell in love,” says Jen Murdoch, barn manager of Willowbrooke Farm, a CANTER Michigan facility. Turnagain Tide, a 2017 Kentucky-bred dark bay Thoroughbred gelding, found his second career at CANTER Michigan. He sold at the 2018 Keeneland September yearling sale for $750,000 and was consigned by Taylor Made Sales (both active supporters of Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance). He raced five times before retiring in December 2021. About four months later, Jen adopted him as a potential project horse for a friend. "I was struck by how gorgeous and sweet he was," she recalls.
