Mal & his bestie. 🥰 They are both so funny. Daisy is our rescue from about two years ago. They both look forward to finishing breakfast because they know after is playtime!

Mallow loves to play tug and ball but his FAVORITE is tag! He loves to be chased. Poor Daisy definitely gets her exercise.

We’re working hard to get Mallow used to ’normal’ life. When I first sat down to eat he actually had his mouth on a piece of pizza! 😳

Using the training collar and praise for wanted behavior, this happened within 10 minutes. My pizza has been sitting here now for another 10 minutes and he hasn’t even tried to sniff it.

He is such a smart boy. Good job, Mal!

I was trying to catch Daisy checking out Mallows dinner bowl. They are separated when eating but lately I’ve been leaving Mallows bowl out to see how he would respond to Daisy being near it. He could care less. He is more interested in getting her to play tag.

Mallow shows no signs of food aggression! 🙌🏼
He does get a little pushy to see what YOU are eating, but he’s working on his manners. 😉

Mallow gets to spend evenings in the house but he doesn’t stay here full-time due to my senior boy Teddy. I don’t want to disrupt Teddys word and he’s isn’t very happy about another male dog eyeing his ladies. 😉

I’m so thankful for my shop and that the space allows us to foster in a safe way.

I do try to incorporate Mallow in our everyday life to make his transition to his forever home easier. The last two days Mallow has spent the afternoons in a crate in my old office. This way he can hear/see us in our normal environment. Today, he was comfortable enough to just chill at the gate and watch the kids run through the house. 😁

Mallow is every bit of 70 lbs. Hell, he could drag me for days. But do you see him? Do you see him sitting while my 7 year old holds his leash? And what you don’t see is my son being silly behind me and the cat not far off. And yet, there Mal sits. 🥰

He nuts, I won’t lie. But then there’s this……..

The Bodyguard and I hit the park again this morning. Yes, the giant goofball baby is wearing a muzzle. He doesn’t mind it one bit.

I am no dog trainer or expert but I do know this dog. He lacks some serious confidence in social situations (something we made quick and great progress on, we just slacked off on park trips). Using a muzzle and training collar remind him to stay in control. Honestly, just putting the training collar on him is enough and he knows to ’get in his feet’ (Carri 😉). The muzzle is added security for him. I realize that sounds odd but it’s comforting. And he can still bark, eat, drink and play with it on. And he likes when I tickle his nose while it’s on and we’re walking.

These tools are all used proactively and never as punishment. By that, I mean, when we start our walk he already has them on. I don’t wait for an undesired behavior to occur. So, putting on the muzzle is just as natural to him as his leash. 😁

This beautiful boy got an A+ on our morning walk. It’s been a while since we’ve done that and he was a little out of practice yesterday. He just gets so excited to see people. Today, we worked on stopping and sitting calmly while people passed us. He’s a work in progress (aren’t we all) but I’m so proud of him. 💙

Crate training can be controversial.
Personally, I think the use of crates is dependent on the breed and situation.

All of my dogs have been crate trained. It has been a safe zone for them. Typically they are only crated when I am away from home. After I began having children, their crates became their super safe space. The kids couldn’t bother them, but because their crates were in the living room, they didn’t feel left out.

To this day, that’s how my dogs use their crates. They go in when we leave, and when they need some space.

Mallow definitely needs a crate. 🤪 He is still in the puppy phase. Huskies also ‘mouth’ a lot. Not only does crating him keep him safe, but it will save your furniture or shoes.

I’d also like to point out that Mallow is like a toddler in the sense that he needs naps. He knows his crate time is resting time. 🥰

Crating can be a beautiful thing when done the right way. ☺️

I had an event this weekend that took place in my shop (Mallows house). He went to Doggie Daycare and had slumber party with some of his favorite humans. He got an excellent report at pickup today. They said he is much calmer and more comfortable there now. 🥰 This dog loves routine!

This is an EXCELLENT article on the Easy Walk Harness. I will never buy another type harness. It makes walking Mal so easy, my 7 year old can do it.
