FIP prevention? Since the peritonitis virus that causes is a mutation of feline , the term "prevention of FIP" is inaccurate and should be used instead to prevent feline coronavirus. Similar to the treatment of FIP, feline coronavirus has no recognized and effective targeted preventive measures, and the mutation conditions are unknown, making FIP difficult to prevent. Therefore, prevention of FIP requires the application of common sense in the fight against infectious diseases in general:
Improve the living environment of cats as much as possible, reduce stress, avoid trauma, maintain hygiene and cleanliness and comfort and enjoyment.
Reduce the number of cats kept at the same time. Infection The higher the density of cats, the higher the probability of transmitting feline coronavirus; and living in a group can cause cats to feel psychological stress and affect their immunity.
Avoid fostering and hospitalization. Fostering to a colony where hygiene cannot be guaranteed is very dangerous, and leaving home can cause the cat to be frightened and reduce its immunity.
Since kittens carry effective maternal antibodies until they are 5 to 7 weeks old, raising them in isolation at an early stage reduces the likelihood of feline coronavirus infection. However, as feline coronavirus is highly contagious, this preventive method requires a very strict hygienic environment.
