Equinox magic extended ~
Many of you know this space and the goodness manifested here.

We are thrilled to extend open arms to our Seed to Shelf curious. Next Saturday 9/28 you can learn more about compost, mushrooms, and old skool seed bombs as praxis.

If you haven’t visited before, please do come through - with an open mind and an open heart. Moonwater Farm is cultivated by community, love, and good food.

We are excited to launch Seed to Shelf - a paid fellowship for youth ages 14-26.

This 24 week program is funded through a grant from LA County and offers the farm a chance to grow, learn, and co-create with the next generation.

We’ve been building a collective of folks who’ve invested in this space over the years and want to spread the joy, discipline and possibility of our cooperative community building.

Come say hi next weekend.

Share the fellowship learning opportunity with youth who are interested in how food sovereignty and economic democracy make for a prosperous future.

Oh - there are a few grant funded support roles we are seeking talent for too!

Calling all Backyard Flock owners - we have our farm friend and animal scientist Dr Ondieki Gekara joining us this Sunday from 9 - 11.

He will be demonstrating how to vaccinate your poultry and there will be a chance for you to have your chicken vaccinated for fowl pox.

Fowl pic is a viral disease that affects many species of wild and pet birds. Fowl Pox is most commonly found in chickens and turkeys.

It is most primarily transmitted by a vector, which can be mechanical or biological- think mosquito or other bugs. It is NOT contagious to humans or other pets, but other animals or humans can be vectors of the pox virus between birds.

Protect your birds!

All chickens must be in a cage. Limited spots.

See you Sunday!

You must RSVP through our website via bio. More details are there.

Farm Camp never fails to delight - the campers, the counselors, the life on the farm. We consider ourselves wealthy beyond our wildest imagination because we are blessed with the most amazing humans who cross our threshold and share their love, wisdom, and care.

How do we set up spaces for thriving ? Beauty, plants, animals, art, time for taking it all in and perhaps most importantly- good food.

Today Chef made sure to nourish us taking into consideration all the nuance of new pallets, nutrition and flavor! The love was palpable.

We had a good day!

FARM CAMP has a few spots left for Urban Agriculture and Discovery Week - ages 5-13.

FARM CAMP is an interactive week-long day camp offering myriad hands-on experiences at our urban farm oasis. Goats, chickens, rabbits, aquaponics, composting, and a variety of workshops introduce youth to all the ways our soil provides nourishment, energy, clothing, housing, and flowers for both human and more than human creatures.

It’s a berry, berry good Spring on the farm! Historically we have a U-pick, but happy to say we were awarded a large grant from the county and our 400lbs of Mulberries are going into the freezer for our first cohort to create a value-add product. More on this soon, watch this space💚🌱🤠

Do you have any favorite mulberry or pomegranate products?

Some mornings it’s great to wake up! What a community the food system attracts - data scientists, policy makers, indigenous chefs, trauma informed therapists, Farmers, food activists, land lovers, environmental scientists, doctors, and nutritionists - to name a few.

kicking off their conversations at the intersection of food, people and the land series. Todays theme - Food is Medicine - and not on a jump-on-the-bandwagon kind of way, but a ground up, thoughtful, culturally relevant, evidence based kind of way.

The power of food is real. Find out about CalAIM, check the ingredients in your food, reclaim your capacity to feel physically, mentally and spiritually whole through holistic nutrition education and don’t fear food.

We taste tested a tisane (fancy for flower + herb) from elderberries, sage, dandelion, mixed with intention and love. Eating foods from the land we live on builds relationship with that land. Eat the “weeds”, plant traditional native food plants, explore the edible + medicinal nature of your surrounds.

Let’s bring these conversations to a viral level - food heals.
