It’s the day of the week that I fill up all my dog’s chew toys with their favorite raw food to keep on hand in the freezer.

This week it’s a mix of OC Raw, Raw Tripe and pumpkin. All of which came from one of my favorite local stores, Henniker Farm store.

If you’ve struggled to find a chew that will last more than a few minutes and won’t break the bank this is your solution!

Brands pictured: Chew King (blue), Kong (black and red), Ruffwear (yellow) and West Paw Toppl (orange).

Did you know we offer boarding? That's right your dog gets to stay with me, in my home where they will be comfortable and get to work on their training skills. Space is limited as we only have 1 household here at a time so book in advance.

It's Friday 🥳 and we want to hear your dog's nicknames! Drop their official name and their nicknames in the comments. 🐕

Fritz is my 7 year old Doberman who has many nicknames but the most commonly used ones are Tina, Tiny, Tiny T and Trudy. Honestly I don't even know how these nicknames came about but everyone that knows Fritz knows him has Tina aka TeeeeNahhhhh 💃🏻

Once your dog has mastered their commands, it's vital to continue practicing and rewarding them for a job well done.

We often only think of rewards as treats but rewards go far beyond just treats. A reward can be anything your dog enjoys.

Daily moments present fantastic opportunities to reinforce your dog's skills and keep them engaged. Here are some ideal scenarios to practice training while rewarding your furry friend using things they enjoy:

1. **Putting down their bowl at mealtime** - Before they dig in, ask for a command like "sit" or "stay."

2. **Coming out of the crate** - Before opening the door for them to exit ask for a “sit” or “down”

3. **Playtime** - Incorporate commands during play, you can ask for simple commands like “sit” while playing a game like fetch.

4. **Clipping on their leash** - Ask your dog to “sit” or go to “place” before clipping on their leash

5. **Going out the door** - Ask your dog for a “sit” or “down” before opening the door to go outside.

Remember, the key is to observe what your dog finds rewarding and tailor your training accordingly! Keeping skills sharp and your dog enthusiastic using everyday moments as valuable learning experiences.

We love hearing from you and we love sharing your success with your training journey. Read what Basil's owners had to say about the progress they have made with her training

"After a few sessions with other trainers in the region we finally came across Transition Dog Training. We had what we thought were large and complex goals of having our dog comfortable off leash with consistent recall, less in home barking, figuring out her reactive nature with other dogs and and getting her to be able to calm down and just relax somewhere.

I can't say we're more shocked about how fast Brenna has brought us to those goals. We assumed at least two maybe three times the amount of sessions then we've already had. I can say our life with our dog and her personality has absolutely changed for the better in a shocking fast amount of time.

Transition dog training (Brenna) was able to listen, diagnose, and come up with solutions that have effectively solved problems we had been ripping our hair out about. She's always on time, always listens, provides great feedback and an instruction homework sheet at the end of every visit.

It's clear, this owner has significant experience with dog training methods and doesn't focus on the forceful training style (be the alpha dog no matter what mentality) we had seen with previous trainers.

After feeling like there wasn't a trainer that was going to work, we can't be more happy with our experience here. Myself, my partner and my dog all highly recommend!"

Thinking of bringing your dog for a swim to cool off? Check your local map to make sure the body of water you are going to does not have any advisories or alerts for Blue-Green Algae.

Cyanobacteria or more commonly known as Blue-Green Algae is a bacteria that grow can grow in any type of water but more commonly will be found when water temperatures are high or in stagnate water where it can multiply rapidly. It can produce toxins that are harmful to dogs and humans though dogs are more likely to become sick from playing in water with cyanobacteria due to their likelihood to ingest water when swimming, playing fetch or just taking a drink. Ingestion of this bacteria can cause vomiting, diarrhea, liver damage and respiratory failure so it is always best to check to see if you swimming spot is safe.
