I want to talk about being a 501c3 rescue. My rescue is not. A lot of shelters won’t allow you to pull a pet unless you are. This I feel is wrong and discriminatory. A 501c3 does not make you a good rescue, it does not mean you will take better care of the animals. What it really means is you can ask for money donations and give you a tax write off note. You do have to have a mission statement. But does any of this make you better? Not really. There are some wonderful 501c3 rescues and unfortunately some bad ones. Anyone with the money and a lawyer can get a 501c3. Yes lots of people say They are a rescue. Agin anyone can call themselves a rescue but just are doing it for money, flipping the animals.
I have run this rescue for well over 35 years. I don’t do it for the money. Im in it for the animals. Most people who surrender are good people who has had their circumstance change. But yes I do on occasion get animals dumped on me. But I’m ok with that. I don’t judge.
It’s not cheap to run a rescue. Medical bills, food, bedding and other supplies aren’t cheap. People say but you
got the animal free why ask for a fee. It cost money and a often a lot of money to care for these beautiful animals.. I don’t mind.
When I ask for a fee, some people think we’ll you got it free. But like I said it’s not cheap to run a rescue. So yes I ask a fee although much lower than most. In some rescues this includes dog and cat rescues fees can be as much as 1500.00. Sometimes more. But that is not the norm. Sometimes rescues make you jump thru hoops just to get the pet you want. Waiting list can be long and then you are turned down. I do make sure you have correct information and knowledge of the pet you want.
This is not aimed at any specific rescues. I don’t want you to look down on anyone. But search out, do your homework, but do not judge a rescue on a 501c3 alone. Great hard working people are out there, doing their best to help animals.
Picture is just for cuteness. Not for adoption.

It’s fall. Soon the cold weather will be here. Please keep up with your enclosures. Prepare for weather related power outages. Hand warmers for your animal that need heat in the house. The hand warmers can stay warm for up to 6 to 8 hours. You need to get some now. Once a weather event starts you might have trouble finding them. Watch your decorations as animals might think they look tasty.
We are always prepping for nasty weather. Heat in the summer to extreme temperatures in the winter. As they say be weather aware.
We have had lots of new intakes. And found homes for most. We still have 2 bearded dragons and a leopard gecko needing homes. We took in 4 sugar gliders but they will need some time to get well. Plus some parakeets that are still with mom.
We are here all year. Holidays we are here, bad weather we are here. Let us know if we can help either taking a animal in or just some friendly advice. We will not give any medical advice. The best thing is your local exotic veterinarian for that.
We accept any exotic animal. We do have a surrender form for you to sign so we may intake your animals. But to adopt one we don’t put you thru the ringer to do so. Please let us know if we can help.

Its been very hot. Make sure your outdoor pets are well hydrated. They need access to fresh water. On very hot days refill the bowls several times so it’s always fresh and cool, if possible.
We have been very busy. The intake of animals has gone up. But most have found homes. I do have several leopard geckos, one has burns/skin infection, one that has a bad eye. And one with poor vision. These are what cost so much for most rescues. Veterinarian bills, medicines, housing, supplies and food. Yes we do ask for a small fee to adopt one of our pets. But this is why. If you run a rescue you definitely do not do it for the money. I spend 20.00 or more on crickets alone each week. That is for 1week. Then there is bedding, supplies, electricity, so much more.
I get no grant money. I get no funding what so ever. All the extra money I have to make up out of my own pockets. Very shallow pockets I might add. I have run this rescue for over 35 years. I’ve been so lucky to have a wonderful family that helps. Kati, Rhonda. My sister michelle. Ivey also round out our rescue group.
If you need us to take your exotic for any reason. You won’t be judged. We are here for the animal. We want to help. Please remember we only take exotic animals. No dogs, cats, or wildlife.
