Global Antibiotic Use is Down

Disease prevention helps reduce the need for animal antibiotics. Government data shows significant reductions in animal antibiotic use – 59% in the UK, 36% in the US and 53% in the EU – driven by increases in prevention.

🎇 On July 4, many animals become startled or frightened by the noise of fireworks. This may cause them to flee from familiar environments and people, and sadly become lost.

🔖 Ensure they are wearing their tags and that their microchips are current with correct contact information. New technology includes GPS collars and geo location tags.

🙉 Provide safe zones and sound buffers indoors to minimize stress.

🐕‍🦺 If they must go outside, they must be on a leash.

PSA - NOW is the time to call for medications if your pet is scared of fireworks and storms, NOT July 3rd 🙂

❤️ April is Heartworm Awareness Month! ❤️

At CVC we diagnose 10-20 cases of heartworms every year 😞

This preventable disease is DEFINITELY in our area and spreads via mosquito bites. Since avoiding mosquitoes is nearly impossible, heartworm preventatives work by killing any baby heartworms your dogs has contracted when the preventative is given.

Did you know…it take 6 MONTHS for heartworms to develop. So… if your dog receives a mosquito bite in October and does not receive preventatives in the winter, the worms develop!

We recommend:
-Small bag of food
-Leash or pet carrier
-Ensure your pet is wearing a snug fitting collar with identification
-Update your pet’s microchip information (or make an appointment for us to implant a microchip if your pet does not have one!)
-Calming medications (call us if your pet is scared during severe weather!)

MDA has announced exhibition requirement changes for beef and swine in Missouri.

Beef and swine exhibitors must provide a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and must be identified with an official form of identification.

These rule changes are meant to reduce the risk of introducing disease into Missouri herds.

Exhibitors are encouraged to work with their local veterinarian, 4-H leader or FFA advisor, or fair superintendents to ensure these new requirements are met prior to the fair or exhibition.

We are thinking about our fellow livestock producers as we face frigid temperatures and additional snowfall this week. Few understand the amount of work, sacrifice and determination that goes into animal production and husbandry, especially during brutal winters and hot summers. We hope you and your livestock stay safe as the winter weather gears up. Remember to ask for help when you need it and check on your neighbors when you can.

Our Story

Our story begins with a wonderful man named Jon Schroeder and his amazing wife, Karen. He and Karen moved to Concordia, Missouri in June 1975 and in June 1976 they purchased the local practice and renamed it Concordia Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Jon retired in September 2017 after 42 years. He and Karen sold the practice to his colleague and friend, Dr. Paul Smith and his wife Rhonda. Sadly, Dr. Jon passed away in May 2018 and he is dearly missed by our clinic family.

Dr. Paul Smith, along with colleagues Dr. Elizabeth Oetting, Dr. Sarah Meineka and Dr. Emily Dohrman and an excellent support staff continue to provide veterinary services for Concordia and the surrounding areas for both large and small animals.

Our hospital is committed to giving your pet the best care possible. Our professional staff includes 2 Registered Veterinary Technicians and multiple Assistants available to provide the best medical, surgical and dental care for our highly valued patients. We offer boarding, wellness and sick-animal exams, high-quality diagnostic tools, and surgery with a heated surgery table and a closely monitored recovery area.

We offer an online store and online food ordering options which are quality controlled to give you the best product at the best price.
