Wilson, proposes that our mental, emotional and even physical health improves when we engage with nature, animals, and organic environments!

For kids working with horses, this connection is especially powerful! In a world dominated by screens and artificial stimulation, many children are disconnected from the natural rhythms of life. Horses offer a hands-on, immersive experience that engages all the senses—feeling the warmth of a horse’s coat, hearing the rhythmic sound of hooves, and moving in sync with an animal much larger than themselves. These interactions build confidence, patience, and emotional awareness in ways that digital experiences cannot replicate. By stepping into nature and working with horses, kids not only develop essential life skills but also restore a sense of balance, focus, and well-being that modern distractions often disrupt.

Horses are incredible mirrors of human emotions. They not only pick up on, but absorb and reflect our energy and body language. If you’re calm and grounded, they tend to relax. If you’re anxious or distracted, they might seem restless or distant. This makes them powerful partners in because they provide honest, immediate feedback.

In life, much like with horses, our energy influences the connections we have with those around us. When we learn to approach situations with intention and self-awareness, we create space for deeper, more meaningful relationships—not only with animals but also with people.

"Hold your horses" is an idiom that means to be patient, wait, or slow down. This should come as no surprise to us since being with horses slows us down by requiring us to match their calm, steady energy. Also, because they live in the moment, respond to our body language, and don’t rush, this encourages us to pause, breathe, and be fully present. So hold your horses!

Constantly being connected can wear you down, leaving you stressed, comparing yourself to others, and quite literally taking your mind hostage! Taking a break from social media, the internet, video games and TV gives you a chance to step back, clear your head, and focus on what really matters—your family, your faith, and who you are at your core. For teens, it’s a way to shake off the pressure of trying to keep up with everyone else. And for the mamas, it’s a chance to reconnect with yourself and set an example of what it looks like to be present and grounded. Sometimes, the best way to find joy is to unplug and just be in the moment together. When’s the last time you shared a real heart to heart moment? I dare you to lay that phone down and open your eyes to God’s creation and all it has to offer…. I dare you!
