Hi everyone. Just wanted to update you on the big fella, Rocki’s progress. Rocki has struggled several years with intermittent laminitis. Two years ago he was treated for EPM. So this fall when he started losing weight and showing laminitis symptoms, I tested him for cushings. He tested positive. So he has been treated since September with a low starch diet, restricted grass and Prescend. He hates it. A full dose of Prescend makes him crazy and he refuses to eat. So he is currently on 1/2 dose and seems to be doing well.

So Rocki has had a really rough week. For the last month or so he has struggled with intermittent lameness and an abscess in his hind foot. On Monday it became full blown laminitis and scratches. The vet was out and treated that but we also tested for insulin resistance and Cushings. We started meds and diet changes while we waited. The results came in on Thursday and he was diagnosed with cushings 🙁. We started treatment immediately so he is taking three meds which he hates. Getting hay and low sugar/starch feed and no turn out. He is NOT happy. He was colicky on Friday night but has improved. Today he is still lame but his legs are healing and the heat is finally out of his feet. None of this has kept him from having full blown hissy fits when things are not going his way.

Sept 14 update: Rocki blew an abscess at his coronary band on his front foot and is feeling much better and getting around well. He is still up off grass which he hates but has resolved himself to his recovery and making the best of it. He looks good and seems happier.

So love is in bloom here at Jakes jake's Flat Farm. Twinkle and Rocki have become besties. Poor Bucky is completely shut out. They spend all day. Every day like this. Just hanging together and taking turns napping. ❤️❤️❤️Who would have thought that miss Bossy and Mister Drama Queen would hit it off. But here we are.

Habibi is having a rough patch in her spring. Last week she came in from the pasture lame. Turns out it is the beginning of a bout of laminitis. Habibi is always the canary in the cave because she will eat anything. I suspect the problem is honeysuckle. She is betting the princess treatment up in the barn, in a bed of shavings getting meds and lots of pets. Send her a big Hug.
