You are missing out on the girl of your dreams if you haven’t yet met Dream! What are you waiting for?! We love Dream! She likes to hop behind the kennel to get your attention. Once she's out, she's the sweetest and happiest girl. It looks like her tail may have been broken at some point, but she still wags her half-floppy tail with joy. She absolutely LOVES treats! She knows sit, loves to play in the pool, and gets along fine with her kennel mate. ❤️ Dream has been waiting since November, please come meet her!
Our friends at Petco Love have some important tips for keeping your pets safe during this holiday weekend. Be sure to read through the tips, make sure your pet's collar is secure and they are microchipped (and the tags and registration are up to date). If your pet does get lost or if you find a lost pet be sure to check out www.petcolovelost.org for help getting them home.

McGraw recently got to go on Foster Field Trip with volunteer Ashley. Here is what she had to say about their outing:
Last night, McGraw come over for a sleepover and boy did he have a blast! He ran around and played like crazy with my other foster, Frida. He would definitely enjoy a doggy sibling to play with. He’s young and very trainable! He was respectful inside the house and was always monitored. He seemed more interested in playing with Frida vs chew toys. He’s a little shy with people when he is by himself, but show him a dog to play with and he’s a totally different dog!
Please come out to the shelter to meet McGraw especially if you have a pup at home that needs a play buddy!!

Can you imagine spending an entire year in a shelter kennel? Vangelo has now been at the shelter for 370 days, and we’re stumped. This sweet guy is loved by everyone! Volunteers describe him as happy, playful, and affectionate. He has a kennel mate and is HW negative.
Recently Vangelo got to go on a field trip, and here’s what his day foster had to say about him: “He was so much fun! Loved the car rides and pup cups, did well with my kids, stayed by us when we ate at an outdoor restaurant, played great with other dogs, and was friendly with other people.“
How about for July 4th we give Vangelo his own independence day, and help get him the freedom ride he has waited so long for?

Start your 4th of July with a little fresh air and a lot of tail wags! Join us at Montgomery County Animal Shelter for a special Fourth of July Dog Walking Event on Friday, July 4, 2025.

There’s no better way to kick off the holiday than by giving our shelter dogs some love, exercise, and one-on-one attention. Come walk a pup (or two!) and make their day extra special before the fireworks begin. We’ll even have pup cups for the dogs to enjoy during their walks! 🇺🇸

📣 Senior Sunday: Meet James!
This sweet older gentleman is the longest resident senior at the shelter; he has been here since July 2024 - almost an entire year!
🐶 James sure would like a happy home with a soft bed to live out his golden years. Volunteers have described this handsome guy as friendly, calm, easy to walk, independent, and a good car rider. He has had several kennel mates and is HW negative.

✨🐾 Meet Wetzel! 🐾✨
Wetzel recently went out as a “foster for the day” and stole the show. Here’s what his foster observed about him:
🚗 From the moment he was picked up, Wetzel was the perfect passenger prince—calm, quiet, and happy to ride right up front.
🏡 He seems potty trained (no accidents even overnight!) and got along beautifully with the foster’s two dogs.
🦮 Walks were a breeze with Wetzel—he didn’t pull on the leash, making the stroll peaceful and easy.
❤ ️ While he loves affection and pets, he was also content to sleep on the floor or in his own bed instead of crowding your space—a true little gentleman!
👀 Wetzel was shy and a bit fearful around men. With gentle patience and kindness, he started to open up—but it might take a little time.
Wetzel is a sweet, quiet companion who just wants to be near you and be loved. He truly deserves a family who will see how special he is. 💙

MCAS is located at 8535 Hwy 242 in Conroe, TX. The shelter is open 6 days a week for adoptions: Tues-Sun 11:30-5pm and is CLOSED MONDAYS. Intakes are done Tuesday and Wednesday, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 to 4:00. The shelter does not process intakes from citizens on Monday or Thursday. Citizens turning in animals must be residents of Montgomery County and not reside inside the city limits of Conroe (Conroe residents must surrender animals to the Conroe City Shelter).
