Waiting in a REALLY long line to get gas. And my 2 am thoughts are…

Yesterday I thought my horse farm (my dream) was crushed, seeing the hurricane tear it apart. We have lots of damage. But yet we are ok. All the animals, the new barn, the new gate and all the housing structures. All fine. But we have had an awesome amount of help. Students coming out and helping with tree removal neighbors and friends checking in.

So my goal with this farm was to create a horse farm with like-minded people. Horse people who aren’t in this for the recognition (at shows). Who just genuinely care about horses and want to enjoy them.

So after all this devastation, I see that I still have my dream, and amazing people around us are really showing me that during this time.

Thank you guys for your help and support. It really means the world to me.

This is a client’s horse he got from a rescue. This horse was severely underweight, terrible feet, afraid of people, super head shy. We were advised that he needs to be sedated because he was so bad. We have never sedated him. We have educated this gelding and taught him that we borrow his feet and then he gets his feet back. We are getting him under saddle (without blinders). And until last week he was terrified of being hosed off. But on Sunday, he got a bath! And lived! This was from today. He was starting to enjoy the water. So proud of this 18 hand, gentle, doof! ❤️

We did a really cool event yesterday for the farm. Horse of Course Stables. I appreciate all who helped. I couldn’t have done it without you! Nancy Kapp, Andrew Kapp thank you for ALLLLLLL your help. And Anne Cothran and Jillian E Carissa! We brought horses to a nearby community having a party and let people pet and take pictures with them. Trying to spread the word about my farm.

Blessed to have this land. The horses are all ok. If someone needs a place to put their horses we have room.

We have 3-4 paddocks with stalls available if people need to move their horses. Our driveway is a mess but the horses are not flooded out.

On my social media feeds, I see current riders and when people comment on or like my post, I sometimes click and I look at their page. All over the internet I see countless images of riders who do not sit a horse correctly. They lean, they slouch, and they look down, all of which and more, disturbs the balance of their horse.

Seeing substandard fundamentals like this makes me hesitant to do clinics because riders come to clinics to get a "silver bullet", a new way to instantly improve their riding. I don't have any magic bullets. Most often what I can offer is how to stop doing something that disturbs their horse, and few people think that's worth hundreds of dollars in clinic fees.

Here is one example of how important sitting a horse correctly can be. A breeder in a divorce was having a fire sale with over forty horses. I went and rode eight horses that had never been ridden. Only one horse did a little jumping around. Why? Because I don't disturb a horse's balance. They move and I move with them. You can't do that if you don't sit correctly. I bought two.

I see people riding, leaning up against the cantle. For Pete's sake, sit in the deepest part of the saddle. For you younger riders, that's a reference to Saint Peter who decides if you get into heaven or not. Sit right and it might increase your chances.

I see feet "up on the dashboard", meaning feet way out in front of the rider's body mass. I see shoulders so closed that the rider couldn't sit up straight if they tried. And so many riders look down. Read this post about head position affecting balance -

www.facebook.com/BobWoodHorsesForLife/posts/pfbid025ZBM7CPgujZE66cHrZDyenh2kBG38saqDFcBabmshG2m5SYNCKckZo2MqkScQZ6Al

The positions of your feet, shoulders and head have measurable impact on your balance. Horses are forced to counterbalance each one of your imbalances from sitting incorrectly. Horses immediately know when their riders refuse to sit in balance with them and they don't like it. Some will put you on the ground if you force them to balance you.

I understand that you sit at a desk all day and you slouch. I know your shoulders are closed because your mom told you not to flaunt your breasts. I have heard all the excuses, and the horses and I don't care. These are no excuse for forcing your horse to accommodate sloppy riding.

Lastly, the image might be of an English rider, but the same goes for western riders. If you have problems like your horse acts up a little in transitions, try sitting more correctly and see if that helps. Or if your horse will not give you a crisp halt, open up your shoulders and sit in correct centered balance, especially when applying the aids. It helps. You want a silver bullet? Sit right, it's as close as I got.
