Pongo’s owner is a disabled vet. He’s in a wheel chair. I’m using the wheel chair to show Pongo the pictures of what he will see on a daily basis. Having him get to use to walking next to it. Not running and jumping in my lap. Coming to me and putting his collar in my hand. Going away from me to place. And doing a sit stay.
We are moving!
WE ARE MOVING!
July can’t be here fast enough! I am thrilled to announce we moving to a 12 acre property out to Montgomery. At the property we plan to break ground around June/July we will be building a 3,000-3,500 sqft facility to start. We will have 30 indoor/outdoor kennels to start. There’s a swimming pond and a place for us make trails. There will be a 1500 sqft indoor training room. A dock diving pool. And a covered outdoor training arena. We are hoping facility will be ready by August.
We will move in second week of July but there will be temporary space for me to house dogs and train on the property.
This has been a big dream of mine for a long time and I’m even more humbled to announce it on MC K9 8th anniversary! 8 years doing what I love. 8 years bridging the gap between human and dog. 8 years helping dog owners with their goals. 8 years serving the community. 8 years training dogs. I can’t believe we are almost to a decade! I appreciate all of my clients and who treat me like family.
Miss Luna has been fun working with while she’s been here this week
Welcome Jackson! This big German shepherd has been here a week and we are finally connecting. It took him a bit to warm up to me. Jackson likes to let everyone know he’s there by his big bark. He’s also not the most confident. We will be working on this as well as sharpening his obedience! #dogtrainer #dogtraining #germanshepherd
Welcome New Transformation Academy students. Luna & Samson! These two beautiful German Short Hair Pointers have been here a week already and learning fast! This is one of my favorite breeds to train!
ALWAYS SET YOUR DOG UP FOR SUCCESS! If your dog won’t come back when called don’t have your dog off leash! Do the work, do the training every day, build up the success of your dog coming back to you. Have the tools in place for you to reinforce your dog to come back to you. Don’t be that person that can’t control their dog and get it back when it sees other dogs. Be these dog owners, good dog owners that can control their dog.

Meet Diesel! This is one of my new students. Already a week and a half In and is making more improvements every day!
Meet new student, Rollie! I trained his mom awhile back and now he is here for his transformation academy! His sister comes after him as well! Anyone else have a soft spot for frenchies? 😅🙋♂️
Meet Maxx! This big 10 month old Great Dane started my Texas 12 step program this week! His owners have tried another trainer in the past. The trainer had good intentions but failed to solve some of the major problems with Maxx. They were a “purely positive” trainer. So would use a bunch of food to mask behaviors and never tell Maxx no. If you’re a client of mine you know I love using food! I always start there to teach behaviors. However,Maxx is a 140lbs! His owners are almost in there 80s and they wanted to be able to handle Maxx on walks pretty quickly. He needs an outlet and if you have been around Great Danes it doesn’t take much to tire them out. I taught Maxx and his owners how to walk on a loose leash in the first session. I normally don’t do this until this 3rd session in but I adjust things accordingly to the dogs and human needs.
Welcome these two vizsla brothers, Gus & Marshall. They are new transformation academy students!
Pack walk tomorrow 9 am. Meet at Riva Row Boat house. Start walking at 9:15!

New Transformation Academy Students!
Teaching a dog to heel off leashed is probably one of the most desired behaviors to teach. I get asked this constantly and how do I teach it. I use the same technique to teach on or off leash heeling. I actually don’t even use a leash to until the end of the process.
Here is 6 tips to help you start the process of teaching your dog to walk next to you on or off leash.
1️⃣ Start training in a calm environment. No distractions. So back yard, not the park.
2️⃣Use food to help motivate your dog to stay next to you.
3️⃣Whatever side you have your dog walking on make sure you reward with that hand. So if your dog is on your left side reward with your left hand. Or if your dog is on your right reward with your right hand.
4️⃣ Have your dog sit next to you parallel to your leg and just reward in place. Work on just this for a few training sessions.
5️⃣ Then Slowly take a step if your pup follows reward! Then go back and have them next to you and take another step. Keep doing this until you can take multiple steps and they still stay next to you.
6️⃣ As your pup gets better make them take more steps before they get rewarded. Gradually build. Take 1 step then reward, 2 then 3, then 4, then 5. The more you do this the better they will become with out having the food.
I hope this helps! Happy training!
Here’s a tip for my small dog owners.
Welcome to the Lab!
The new training building!
We are 90% done.
Still have to finish out the second floor building out indoor runs for the dogs up there. Currently just using crates but want to have a little extra room for the dogs.
Can’t wait to show y’all the whole thing when everything is done!
I personally love riding a bike or a long board and most dogs love to run! So why not kill two birds with one stone and do both.
This is a great way to spend time with you dog as well as get their energy out. I currently have everyone on a harness cause I haven’t taught leash pressure yet. But this was to see how they all did next to the bike and build confidence by the bike. As they all progress through their training I will create more rules just like walking on a leash.
That being said with my personal dogs they know what’s up. If I put them on a harness they know they get to run and go fast. (Which I recommend only on a harness and be on a dirt road.) When they have their prong collar or regular collar on they know we just going for a light control stroll.
Hope everyone had a great Monday!
