When I send a pic of a puppy to my wife today… her reaction…. 😒
A lot of dog owners get stuck and only stay in the teaching phase. They pull out food and teach the behavior.
But they never actually proof the behavior. Meaning will the dog stay on place when I open the door, sit down, sweep, vacuum etc.
You have to show your dog each picture because that’s how they see the world.
Always remember when you’re not training you’re training!
Happy Monday!

Teaching Calm on Cue
Does your dog know how to be calm on cue? In this video, I’m working with Lia, a dog I recently sent home after her board-and-train. This clip shows her about a week or two into training, learning how to be calm on command and enjoy her playtime within boundaries.
Here’s what’s happening:
• “Enough”: I step on the leash and wait for her to calm down. As soon as she relaxes, I release the leash pressure.
•“Ready”: Her signal to play, jump, and have fun—because it’s the right time for it.
This approach is inspired by Jay Jack’s Window Theory, which divides your dog’s day into windows:
1️⃣ Calm Liberty: 5–10 seconds before your dog falls asleep.
2️⃣ Play With You: Fun and interactive play with you.
3️⃣ Find Your Own Fun: Your dog entertains themselves, but it’s important to set boundaries on what’s acceptable.
4️⃣ Work: obedience- sit, down, place, and recall.
Dogs naturally cycle through these windows daily. Training helps them understand when it’s appropriate to be in each one. This method creates a calmer, more balanced, and happier dog.
Here is quick snippet from Mr Pouncey check in video I sent to his owners. Two things puppy owners can get from this video. 1️⃣ Start teaching your puppy big or small how to use its body. How get on and off objects. How to be confident on any surface you put them on. Believe me after doing this for many years it can be a drag when your full size lab, german shepherd, Great Dane doesn’t want to hope in the truck gets weird on different surfaces. And yes at this age I start showing the pups that picture as well. 2️⃣ Teach calmness. You have to make sure you have given your pup their needs. Got some energy out of them via walk or play. Once that’s done you can teach them to be calm but just having a leash on them and letting them follow you around the house. I tend to use minimum food rewards here and just calm praise nothing crazy! Remember the goal is to teach calmness! Happy training!
2024
2024 You were good! Excited for 2025! Excited to see what’s gonna happen! Happy New Year!
Pongo’s owner is a disabled vet. He’s in a wheel chair. I’m using the wheel chair to show Pongo the pictures of what he will see on a daily basis. Having him get to use to walking next to it. Not running and jumping in my lap. Coming to me and putting his collar in my hand. Going away from me to place. And doing a sit stay.
We are moving!
WE ARE MOVING!
July can’t be here fast enough! I am thrilled to announce we moving to a 12 acre property out to Montgomery. At the property we plan to break ground around June/July we will be building a 3,000-3,500 sqft facility to start. We will have 30 indoor/outdoor kennels to start. There’s a swimming pond and a place for us make trails. There will be a 1500 sqft indoor training room. A dock diving pool. And a covered outdoor training arena. We are hoping facility will be ready by August.
We will move in second week of July but there will be temporary space for me to house dogs and train on the property.
This has been a big dream of mine for a long time and I’m even more humbled to announce it on MC K9 8th anniversary! 8 years doing what I love. 8 years bridging the gap between human and dog. 8 years helping dog owners with their goals. 8 years serving the community. 8 years training dogs. I can’t believe we are almost to a decade! I appreciate all of my clients and who treat me like family.
Miss Luna has been fun working with while she’s been here this week
Welcome Jackson! This big German shepherd has been here a week and we are finally connecting. It took him a bit to warm up to me. Jackson likes to let everyone know he’s there by his big bark. He’s also not the most confident. We will be working on this as well as sharpening his obedience! #dogtrainer #dogtraining #germanshepherd
