National Pet Dental Month is here! Some things you can do to help your pet keep their teeth healthy include: giving dog friendly veggies like carrots and celery as treats, making sure to buy vet approved dental chews and feeding them some crunchy kibble.

Fun Fact! Missy has been with the VAC in some form or fashion since around 2004. She moved away and when she moved back to the area, she came right back to work. Missy and her husband Steve have trained for and participated in The Ultimate Hike 3 times over the last 4 years. This year will be their 4th year to participate and they will hike 25 miles, in one day, on the Superior Trail in Minnesota. This is a fundraiser for CureSearch, a non-profit that raises money to help fund childhood cancer research. To prepare, they hike around the Natural State before they hit the trails for The Ultimate Hike. We're so proud of her work ethic and dedication! Happy Birthday Missy! We love you!

Cats are amazing survivors but sometimes they need a little helping hand, especially when the temperatures drop so low. Directions for DIY kitty shelters are easily found online and you can utilize materials you already have to help outside kitties find a place to stay warm and dry. Amber came to the VAC through the Cat Distribution System sometime in January of 2016. While we may not remember the exact timing of her glorious arrival, she has definitely made her presence known every day since. Amber keeps us all on our toes as we continue to come up with new and inventive ways to keep the food (any food....) safe from her nimble claws.

It is getting cold out there! Every pet is different, and we should definitely watch for signs of hypothermia and act accordingly. Some signs your pet might be too cold include shivering, cold ears, curling up and moving slowly, barking or whining and searching for a new spot to stay out of the wind. If you're cold, they probably are, too! 🥶
