Supply, Meet Demand Producing horses with exceptional speed inherently produces many more lacking that singular talent. Everyone in the business knows this by-product is the primary cause of the aftercare problem. The volume of over-supply is enormous. Visibility, awareness and legitimate concern ov...

Cruz 1998-2024 Our big guy galloped across the rainbow bridge yesterday to meet up with his friends. I like to think he and Moe Moe are back at it plotting how to create some chaos! He was loved and adored by so many as he led a very full life. Cruz was so lucky to have Kathleen Beckham for so many years before joining our herd of Thoroughbreds. He got to see the country with her on her clinic tours around the US. Moonlighted as a hunter/jumper in the off season. When he joined us 10 years ago life got slower, but lots of tiny humans to love on him and feed him treats. And of course Moe Moe as his ever present sidekick for shenanigans! Cruz taught lessons and went for hacks, attended Pony Club, was a buddy for first off farm trips for baby Thoroughbreds, trips to the ocean for a bucket list gallop in the surf, swimming at the Ashland farm pond, and always acting far younger than his age. He required frequent reminders he was to stop playing harder than the younger Thoroughbreds. He might hurt something. We always joked he had a, “hold my beer!” Approach to life. His antics had slowed a little in the last couple of years as our rescue Joey lost his sight and went completely blind. Cruz and Joey were inseparable. He always made sure Joey knew where he was. A soft nicker to give him a point of reference. And then a nibble if Joey was getting too close to something. I think they knew yesterday. Joey is sad standing rather sullen in the field. His pony friends stayed close and are picking up the slack guiding him. The barn just doesn’t feel right today without his big head hanging out the stall door nickering for his meal. RIP big guy. You are leaving a big hole in a lot of hearts.

Santa’s Helpers had a fun weekend for USMGA Pairs competition. So thankful for Dan and Ree Ree coming all the way from Australia to meet and coach our US riders. Girls competed for the second time in U18 with a stiff level of competition. They had to work for it!! .mgaa competed on a new to her pony, Zoe. They rocked and learned a lot! McK and YoYo were solid and YoYo took care of her on Sunday when she competed with a sprained ankle. 👑 Love our YoYo!

In the wake of Hurricane Helene and recent natural disasters that have hit the southeast and other areas of the country, we are thinking of all those affected. In true Pony Club spirit, many local Pony Clubs and Centers are working hard to support relief efforts.

Pony Club also has a Disaster Relief Fund to aid Pony Club families and horses in the aftermath of an accident or natural disaster, such as fires, hurricanes, and floods. For information on how to apply for assistance, please call the National Office at (859) 254-7669 or email [email protected]. "If I had a horse buck with me now, I’m a little disappointed. It’s not the end of the world, but I’m a little disappointed if I couldn’t keep the horse out of trouble. Whereas it used to be a source of pride and now it’s sort of a source of shame if I let the horse get that lost." - Buck Brannaman.
